The Houston Texans are falling apart before our eyes.
This one is not Matt Schaub’s fault. Turnovers have been a problem for the Texans, but it’s been fumbles -- by DeAndre Hopkins and Keshawn Martin -- that have set the Rams up. Martin’s fumble on a kickoff return was scooped up and run back by Daren Bates of the Rams for an 11-yard touchdown that gave the Rams a 31-6 lead midway through the third quarter.
Unfortunately, even if Schaub isn’t going to lose his job because of his performance, he might lose his job because of injury: He limped off the field in the third quarter after suffering a leg injury, and was replaced by T.J. Yates. The crowd in Houston cheered as Yates took the field.
If Yates can somehow lead the Texans to a dramatic comeback, then Schaub is likely done as the Texans’ starter. But this is a team with problems that go a lot deeper than the starting quarterback.
UPDATE 3:05 p.m. ET: Yates threw a pick-six on his first possession. Ouch.
