It took 49ers tight end Vernon Davis less than two quarters to set a new career-high for receiving yards in a regular-season game.

Davis hauled in seven receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns in the first half against Arizona on Sunday as the 49ers rolled to a 22-14 lead.

The touchdowns highlighted the skill set that makes Davis such a tough matchup for defenses. On the first score — a 61-yarder in the second quarter — Davis lined up near the backfield, a la a blocking back or H-back. Colin Kaepernick faked the handoff to a tailback, then hit Davis downfield for a touchdown.

Later in the quarter, Davis split out to the right like a wide receiver, and Kaepernick hit him for a 35-yard score.

Davis needs 10 yards to exceed the 180 he reached against New Orleans in the 2011 divisional-playoff round.
