Doug Marrone optimistic Thad Lewis will play in Week Seven

On Monday, Bills head coach Doug Marrone sounded confident about quarterback Thad Lewis’ availability for Sunday’s game at Miami.

“I feel good about him being able to play Sunday,” Marrone said, per the club’s official Twitter feed.

Marrone, per the club’s Twitter feed, indicated that an MRI and X-rays on Lewis’ foot came back negative. PFT reported earlier Monday that Lewis had a mild foot sprain.

In his first regular-season start for Buffalo, Lewis completed 19-of-32 passes for 216 yards with two touchdowns in Sunday’s overtime loss to Cincinnati. He also rushed for a three-yard touchdown in the 27-24 defeat.

The Bills signed former Raiders quarterback Matt Flynn on Monday, giving them three passers on the roster.

    Oh God. Matt Flynn? Why?!?!

Signing Matt Flynn is a brilliant move; it all but assures Thad Lewis is going to be a starting-quality NFL QB.

Signing Flynn was smart. Let the competition begin for spots #2 and #3 on the roster. The outcome is unknown but the Bills will have better QB play until Manuel is back in shape.

In other news, Matt Flynn announces plan to be QB for every club in the NFL. 5 week stop in Buffalo being the “second easiest million dollars Ill ever make”. Ill be happy to start for the Jaguars when losing matters most to them next month.

Buffalo is just getting done in by injuries this season. Team could easily be 5-1 if the team still had a QB or secondary. You can only go so deep on ANY depth chart before you hit bottom. Buffalo hit bottom, managed to find a competent replacement and then hit bottom again :/

Someone please tell me why I drafted CJ Spiller #1? Oh yea, because he was going to get the ball “until he pukes” – right? The bills suck period end of subject

    Who else is available?

I understand the concept of “next man up” – but yeesh.

Kevin Kolb – injured TWICE and ending up on IR before the season even starts.
EJ Manuel – looked acceptable if a little raw before 6-8 week injury.
Tuel – looked great in preseason, was pretty much thrown to the wolves when used as backup on the road aganst a top 5 defense and looked gawdawful…
Thad Lewis – brought in to lead practice squad when Kolb went down – wound up looking OK enough yesterday. REALLY hoping Marrone is right.
Dennis Dixon – brought in “just in case” after EJ went down.
Matt Flynn – next man up…

Seriously – at this point, the QB market is pretty much down to the “has-beens”, “also-rans” and “complete dregs”.

Even scarier – other than one game – Buffalo has been in the game until LITERALLY the last minute every time… And that’s WITH as many QBs as games played this season and being down to the bitter dregs of their secondary depth chart…

You have seen the Bills play before, right? They have 2 very capable RBs, and have so since Freddy stole Lynch’s starting job away BEFORE CJ was even drafted. In other words, you should have done your research and picked up Jackson in the 8th round like I did.

    I got him in the 12th. :D

I like what I see out of this bills team. They are tough for sure, just getting plagued by injuries. Why is it though that bad teams always seem to get injured? Maybe it’s because this year they’re playing harder than they ever have.

    @JacksonJames4

I like what you said. When interviewed last week, COach Marrone said that while all the injuries are tough, he liked the fact that they didnt have smooth sailing and had to deal with adversity early in his coaching career.
I like what they are doing, instead of getting veteran stop gaps they are performing an actual rebuild. Get young guys and let them grow together… There is a lot of promise thus far, although they still need to prove themselves, they are competitive.
Its nice having more than one guy who could play for many NFL teams lol..

You Bills Fans are such a bunch of Lovable Losers. Every team has their share of injuries… stop your excuses! Miami has not had all 11 Starters on Defense yet this year and are still Winning. Waaahhhh!
