Giants make room for a new running back

The Giants had veteran running backs Peyton Hillis and D.J. Ware in for workouts on Tuesday and it looks like one of them will be joining the team.

Multiple reports have both running backs remaining in town to take physicals with the team on Wednesday and there’s an open roster spot after the team announced they have waived/injured running back Da’Rel Scott. The designation means Scott would revert to the team’s injured reserve or be released with an injury settlement if he is not claimed on waivers.

Scott injured his hamstring last Thursday against the Bears. It was his first game back with the team after being waived following the Giants’ Week Four loss to the Chiefs and re-signed a week later. Scott was signed after David Wilson hurt his neck, an injury that won’t require surgery but is expected to keep him out of the lineup for a few weeks.

Jeremy Wright and one-time Giant Ryan Torain also reportedly worked out for the Giants on Tuesday as they look for a back to go with Brandon Jacobs and Michael Cox.

Peyton will make a good fit. I would root for the Giants.

As a Giants fan I think I’m eating it in spoonfuls as payback for the two recent SB runs. I do not live in the NY area yet every game has been televised so far, I can’t escape them.

If 7 years ago I was asked to sit through an an awful season in exchange for even one Super Bowl win I would have taken it. It still doesn’t make this season any easier to take.

It doesn’t matter who is the running back, if the offensive line can’t make holes, the running game will be the same

Meanwhile the Steelers wish they had ONE running back on their roster!

Very tough season for the Giants but that’s the NFL in the salary cap era. Teams can go from champions to doormats and the other way around in one or two years. Because of the salary cap even championship teams have lots of holes unlike 25+ years ago. The best teams today are not as dominant and the worst teams are not as downtrodden as their 1980s counterparts.

Take a look at the 49ers, the Bears and the Giants when they won in the 1980s. The teams all had good to great offensive lines, quarterbacks, receivers, running backs, defensive lines, linebackers and defensive backs. They didn’t have weak links. The 1 or 2 regular season games they would lose would be close. Today, teams that win the Super Bowl sometimes get blown out in a couple of regular season games, and have lots of holes.

A minor good thing about the Giants collapse is that clown justintuckrules hasn’t been doing his dumb trolling about his hero Tiki Barber or writing stupid things like the Giants don’t need Jason Pierre-Paul to be good or even to step on the field to be a dominant team.

Any of these would be better than Torain or Ware. What’s the problem?

    Michael Turner
    Cedric Benson
    Beanie Wells
    Montario Hardesty
    Kevin Smith
    Joe McKnight
    Joseph Addai
    Tim Hightower

If you’re searching for a running back then wiki Tiki.

I’m surprised you didn’t put your hero Tiki Barber on the list. He’s only 37 and out of football for 7 years.

Next you should write about how great the Giants and Jason Pierre-Paul are and how the Giants will dominate without Pierre-Paul even playing for the first half of this season.

Time to convert Bear Pascoe to tailback. He’s the next Frank Gifford.

@footballviewer – I have an imposter that posts under a contrived version of my screenname. I think he puts an “s” in his name.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, as one of the two or three Tiki apologists left, I actually do believe he’d give us more output at RB than anyone on the list.

Miserable season for NYG but I wouldn’t want to root for any other team. Overall, a great franchise. Big Blue!

What is the status of Andre Brown? He’s got to be close to 100%.

  14. tuucamaron says: Oct 15, 2013 8:57 PM

@pheelingphine…Andre brown is running and doing some contact but he can’t come back until week 10, according to what I read somewhere

    Thanks for the update Tuucamaron.
