The cheering from the home crowd that accompanied Texans quarterback Matt Schaub’s injury on Sunday infuriated many members of the team, but Schaub says he wasn’t aware of anything going on in the stands when he went down.

Schaub explained Monday that he was more concerned with the popping sound he heard when he went down than what the fans were doing. Schaub was vague about just what part of his right leg made the popping sound, but he was relieved that the injury turned out to be less severe than feared at the moment of impact.

“It popped and must’ve come out and come back in place,” Schaub said, via the Houston Chronicle. “It could have been drastically worse.”

Schaub received injections and other treatment on his leg on Monday and said he’ll do everything in his power to return to the lineup this week. Coach Gary Kubiak said that the team would be preparing T.J. Yates and Case Kennum to play while waiting to find out Schaub’s condition.
