Steelers place Levi Brown on injured reserve

AP

Levi Brown’s season in Pittsburgh was a short one.

Brown, the offensive tackle obtained in a trade with the Cardinals on October 2, has been placed on injured reserve without playing a single game for the Steelers.

The Steelers expected Brown to play on Sunday, but he suffered a triceps injury in pregame warmups, and that injury has now ended his season.

Pittsburgh also placed tight end/fullback David Johnson on injured reserve, signed free agent tight end Richard Gordon and promoted cornerback Isaiah Green from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

  1. Hang in there Steeler Nation! Adversity is going to come now and then, but the great franchises( which you are) always respond to adversity with fight, and comeback!

  2. to all my steeler friends that i talk to on here, just want to say tough break and good luck this sunday. looking forward to a great game as always
to wearethe steelers i just want to say LOLOLOLOLOL

  3. Wow, the Steelers just flushed a draft pick down the toilet. For a 1-4 team with some holes, that’s a big no-no.

  4. Hope he comes back next year motivated like never before. But we won’t need him this Sunday. Instead of Levi, it could be Foxy Brown and it’d still be domination.

  5. THIS is why you DON’T:

    1. Hire a GM (Colbert) from a losing team with zero talent(Detroit).
    2. Hire a coach (Tomlin) based solely on the color of his skin (Rooney Rule..

The Steelers have blown multiple picks on OL in the past few years, why is their no outrage against Jack Bicknell Jr (Steelers OL coach)? His JOB is to coach these guys up and he’s failing miserably.

Suffice it to say, Tomlin put together a very poor coaching staff, and Colbert has drafted/signed poor players.

  6. Very frustrating as a fan to not at least see what Levi had to offer… That being said, I sincerely hope no Steelers fan was expecting him to be a Ryan Clady-type who would resurrect the offensive line. He was a top draft pick for a reason, so you would like to think the ability is there to be tapped into, possibly a change of scenery may have done him well? But fact is this guy was a draft bust, and on paper not much, if any, of an upgrade over what we have currently at LT.

The notion that this is crippling or devastating to the team is pretty ridiculous, however. The objective was to improve that position, and as far as I saw, Beachum did a fine job of giving Ben a little more room to breathe, really not being noticed. Which is a good thing on this O-Line… He also showed a bit of tenacity which was completely lacking with Mike Adams.

  7. Why is everyone apologizing? With their fans and their numerous playoff berths over the years, its GOOD to see them fall apart.

If they werent playing the JEST last weekend I would have hoped to see them go 0-5!

hit the thumbs down for me and my post….. now!

  8. If it weren’t for bad luck, the Steelers wouldn’t have any luck at all this year.

Really, though, trading a first round pick for a disappointing former top 10 pick never made sense in the first place.

  9. Triceps injury. Just call Ray Ray for a way to cheat and get back in record time with illegal Deer Antler Extract.

    2012 Ravens*

*Inspirational leader cheated to avoid IR by using a substance banned by the NFL. Basically steroids.

  10. The steelers haven’t done anything since steelers team doctor came under federal suspicion, was fired, and indicted for hgh/steroid distribution.

  11. @pftfan…

The draft pick was “conditional”. My guess is that the conditional part of the transaction had something to do with playing time. Since Levi obviously won’t be getting any playing time, Arizona probably is just getting salary relief.

Just one of those seasons… The problem is, this is the third season in a row we’ve had one of those seasons with injuries.

    Onward and upward.

    GO STEELERS!

  12. scoobs, right back at ya buddy. I assume it’ll be a one-score game down to the end, with the good-guys finishing on top, of course.

Conditional draft pick still means a draft pick, the “conditional” just refers to the round that pick was in based on playing time. Even if it’s a 7th rounder, that’s still depth and/or trade chip that was lost in exchange for zero game time.

Scoobie wearethesteelers is the pride of Baltimore are you actually laughing at your boy?
Should be a good game telling both teams a lot about their season. Steelers lose they are playing for a draft pick or respectability in their remaining games. Ravens lose they will be lucky to make the playoffs, but will end with a middle of the pack first round pick. But the ravens won’t dominate anybody…..

  15. I’m more upset they signed another TE/Fullback. How bout another receiver!?!? Reggie Dunn anyone!?!

With all the injuries to the TE’s and O-Line, .. it’s like God is trying to send the Steelers a message, but they are unable to read the tea leaves.

  16. Ouch. Hopefully the “conditional” part of the draft pick means the pick wasn’t actually lost.

This game is going to be brutal. Both teams have something to prove and plenty of dislike for each other.

crown, we’ll let you put Foxy Brown, Antonio Brown, a one armed Levi Brown, heck even Bobby Brown at LT but it still won’t be enough to slow down Hacksaw from Ball So Hard University.

  17. Perhaps a bit off topic –

The steelers and the packers were the two best teams in 2010 (and for more reasons than they both happened to be the Super Bowl representatives). They both were built on draft and develop. But look where both have landed since then. The Packers have had a lot of injuries but are still relevant while the steelers are struggling. The difference? Contracts pushed out too long, keeping guys in decline around too long, etc. A lot of Packer fans gripe about Ted Thompson’s methods, but it’s the reason the Packers are better than the Steelers right now. Thompson didn’t follow the Steelers’ path. It’s the reason the Greg Jennings are gone and the Desmond Bishops are gone. You can’t keep everybody and if you try you end up like the Steelers.

  18. Shouldn’t have ever been acquired anyway. If he played Ben would have been hurt anyhow so no big deal. Colbert must go! Since he was trying to get a draft bust to play, he can always play Adams again

  19. lf4l, that was good. It makes more sense though to play Arthur Brown on our O-line, as he’ll spend the day spun around and swallowed up in the trenches anyway.

Glad you mentioned Dunn, I’ve been wondering when we are gonna bring him back on for a few weeks now. Felix Jones has no business returning kickoffs, and Dunn has a unique talent at doing just that. Helping our offense starts with giving ourselves good field position, and when Felix runs it out from 7 yds deep and gets to the 16 every time, we’re already in a hole.

  21. Not saying that Pittsburgh got taken badly in this trade but I hear that Hollywood is looking to produce a film version of the old “Green Acres” TV show & they are gonna cast Dan Rooney as Oliver Wendell Douglas & Bill Bidwell as Mr. Haney….

  22. crown…lol @ good guys. not even gonna mess with that one. but yes i agree…probably a down to the wire one score game
nofool. no, neither team will likely dominate. just some back and forth with crown. and as far as jmf/weare being the same…if true, i wouldnt be in a rush to claim either.

  23. toolkein:
Thanks for a evaluating a team you obviously know nothing about…
The Steelers’ decline, which started with the 2011 season, has been a result of salary cap issues. To the Rooneys’ credit, they kept the best defense this side of the 1970s intact for as long as they possibly could.
The Steelers have lost two potential future Hall of Famers from that unit: James Farrior and Casey Hampton. Before those two departures, there were the losses of Aaron Smith and James Harrison. Players like those simply don’t grow on trees.
Another departed potential future HOF is Hines Ward. Let’s not forget that the team also decided to replace nearly all of last season’s O-line, which was a decent unit, with unproven and inexperienced players.
Include into the mix Tomlin’s lack of depth perception, and you have instant decline.

Let you in on a little secret old timer…..nobody and I mean nobody cares what you have to say when you post under that handle so go back to your recliner and your reruns. Might want to check on the conditional terms of the trade their Einstein before you blovate.

  25. You’re better off with Levi “Big Papa Jump” Brown on the IR than on your o-line. The only time a DE wasn’t getting by him was when there was already a yellow flag sitting at his feet.

  26. Does the Lemon Law apply to NFL players too? I think Arians exacted some revenge on his former team with this dud…I mean dude.

    Agreed!

But, alas were not privy to what goes on behind the scenes. Just have hope they’ll get it done.

    Go Steelers!!!

  30. True Steeler injury story:

Myron Cope (announcer): Coach, I see that Lee Flowers is activated today, 2 weeks after a high ankle sprain. A high ankle sprain usually takes 4 weeks to heal. What gives?

Bill Cowher (coach): I thought the same thing, Myron, until my wife, a former exercise physiology student explained to me that a second high ankle sprain takes half as long to heal as the first. This was Lee’s second high ankle sprain.

Myron (after thinking for a moment): Then why don’t you just take everyone out in February and sprain all their ankles?

-Oh the irony of a Patriot fan calling someone out for cheating…. I literally almost just fell out of my chair. How are those superbowls working out for since your little incident?…….. Oh…right

  32. Poor cap mgt (doesn’t allow using free agnecy to fill holes) and a few less than stellar draft picks will catch up with you.

  33. Man, there must be a black cloud over this franchise. Originally I believe there was only one river near the stadium, but with all the crying and whining by fans, coaches, players, it created 3 rivers of sadness, soon to be four. I feel for them kinda.

    lol!

Well, let’s see… I have 8 “thumbs up” for that comment while you have 10 “thumbs down” for yours.

Guess a lot more people agree with & like what I’m writing than they do what you did.

Maybe if you stop drinking the Steeler Koolaid and accept your team isn’t nearly as good as you want them to be then maybe you wouldn’t be such an unhappy little man.

Believe it or not there’s more to life than Pittsburgh sports…

  35. Last year Arizona cardinals went 4-0 to start their season then (lost) all except for 1 game for the rest of the season, my prediction is Pittsburg will (win) all except for 1 of their last 12 games and go 11-5
