Trade for Levi Brown won’t cost Steelers anything

AP

There is a bright side to the Steelers trade for Levi Brown, who was placed on injured reserve without playing a game for him.

At least it didn’t cost them anything.

The swap that sent him from the Cardinals to the Steelers was for a conditional draft pick. According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, the condition was that Brown had to be on the active roster for five games.

Considering he didn’t get through warm-ups in the first one, that condition can be considered unmet.

The Steelers are now left to either stay with Kelvin Beachum or hope that benched second-rounder Mike Adams recovers from his public shaming to play well.

  1. That sound was Suggs & Dumerville laughing an evil “we’re going to be very productive Sunday” laugh…..

  2. So his salary is nothing? I think the more accurate headline should be the trade won’t cost the Steelers a draft pick.

  3. Many Cards fans consider this season a success, regardless of the W-L record, simply for finally shipping Levi Brown out of town. Now he’s someone else’s headache.

  4. Maybe the Steelers can cut a deal for a left tackle from some sorry team that has no chance to make the playoffs whatsoever (whatsoever = the biggest word I know) and wants to build for the future. Oh wait ……

  5. Actually the Cards ate most of his cap besides about $800k. Nice try thou.

Beachum and the rest of the line were pretty fantastic Sunday considering the dominance of the Jets from 7 against other opponents. Haley adjusted the play calling nicely.

The bottom line is with the Bengals and Browns pulling the Lions and Pack this week, beating the Ravens could put the Steelers right back into the division race. I know you dont want to hear it but its very true.

  6. Levi Brown was lucky he hurt his triceps before 1st round draft bust/teammate knee assassin david decastro got a chance to take him out.

  7. Wow its incredible how fans of horrible teams come out to bash on the Steelers when we start out bad, but since its been 45 yrs since that’s happened I guess there has been plenty of time to become extremely jealous. Must really suck being a Ratbird, Clowns or Bungle fan. I sure will enjoy it if we turn it all around and win the division. I’ll have to remember all these haters names and get back to them if we do. Its not like anyone in our division is great this year so any given Sunday we could pull off 11 wins. Even 8 more wins could get us into playoffs this year. We won the SB once before as 6th seed, history does seem to repeat itself.

  8. CheffyGlen ,, you must be taking some real strong medication in saying the steelers are going to win the SB , you really think that’s possible with the current squad the steelers are fielding , really ?? Man you are really really delusional , and this is coming from a pats fan who could care less about the afc north ,, The only thing I gotta say is Bwahahahahahahah !!!!!!

    I agree.
However, being “in the race” and being an actual good team are two very different things. There’s no question that the AFC North is weak, but I’d rather see a complete flameout for a top pick than a mediocre (or worse) division contender with little to no chance to compete in the postseason.

Yes, that nasty 19th ranked Jets defense.

    Two behind the Oakland Raiders.

    Nice.

But I think he hurt it playing video games in the locker room.

Coach is cleaning up all that stuff though.

Report comment. It’s ok, settle down . We put fleece back in your straight jacket so you will be more comfortable skippy. The fraggle reruns are on demand tonight so you should have a peaceful night. Boy the needy are really needy.

  13. realitycheck, you’re right, the Jets D was pretty easy. They’re certainly not world-beaters like that Pack D you managed a whole 3 points on before garbage time. By the way, the Pack are giving up more points per game than the Jets, in case you were wondering

  14. Where’s my good friend pftfan…???

This is EXACTLY what I said this morning and he bashed me for saying the “conditional draft pick” was probably now “no draft pick”.

    C’mon Einstein, eat your ratbird…

    GO STEELERS!

  15. An out-of-work Max Starks is better than Mike Adams on his best day (not that he’s actually had one). Just ask T. Sizzle who gets stonewalled by Starks every game.
Note to Tomlin: sign Max Starks today.

    What?

  17. The Steelers can cut Levi Brown prior to next season without incurring a salary cap hit. They have no responsibility for the guaranteed money included in his contract with the Cardinals.
