Dolphins cut bait on Marvin Austin

The Dolphins must feel like defensive tackle Paul Soliai is back to 100 percent, because they just got rid of 25 percent of their depth chart at the position.

According to Andrew Abramson of the Palm Beach Post, the Dolphins released defensive tackle Marvin Austin Tuesday.

Austin was once a promising prospect, but after sitting out all of his final year at North Carolina on an NCAA suspension and missing his entire rookie season with the Giants with a torn pectoral, that seems like forever ago.

The former second-rounder played eight games for the Giants in 2012, but after two in Miami, they moved on. His release leaves them with just three defensive tackles on the roster (Soliai, Randy Starks and Jared Odrick), though they are carrying two on the practice squad.

mcjon, good call on the mask, LMFAO.

Where did this guys talent go??? In college he was dominant. Perhaps it was that the opponents were low quality, but still, he had NFL talent. Seems like a Haynesworth situation with this dude…

Not a matter of talent, but effort and work ethic.

Man, going into his senior year of college this guy was the top rated defensive player in the nation. Can’t miss top 5 pick. Then he takes some illegal benefits, misses the season, giants draft him, he gets hurt, and there it all goes.

Maybe they should poach Francis off the pats practice squad since they snagged him before he could get to the Dolphins practice squad on final cuts day.

Cowboys, we are the walking wounded.
To quote the great Parcells, “At some point somebody thought he was worth a second round pick”.

Word is that the Dolphins are looking to trade for an offensive lineman. Makes sense as to why they made space.
