Nick Novak wins AFC special teams award

Nick Novak AP

Since he did most of the scoring, Nick Novak should win most of the awards.

The Chargers kicker was named AFC special teams player of the week, after hitting all four field goals in his team’s 19-9 win over the Colts.

Novak’s night included a 50-yarder with two minutes left, which pushed it to the final margin.

He’s been perfect on all six attempts of 40 yards or longer this year (he’s missed twice in the 30s, both blocked), and that gives the Chargers a boost they can use, since all of their games have been within 10 points, and three of them have been decided by a field goal.

Novak has been on my fantasy team since peeing on the sideline. Best pic ever for a team logo. He deserved a game ball for that.

While I thought having him kick a 50+ yard filed goal at the end of the last game, instead of going for it on ’4th and a foot’ was a lame idea, my hat is off to Nick for being incredibly clutch on that kick and the rest of this year. Nice to see S. D. continuing a great line of past kickers, both punters and place kickers.
