Thomas Davis wins NFC defensive player of the week

For a guy who wasn’t supposed to be doing this, Thomas Davis is doing it pretty well.

The Panthers linebacker was named NFC defensive player of the week for his two-sack, 10-tackle outburst against the Vikings, which helped propel them to a 35-10 win at Minnesota.

Davis looks fully back to speed after a coming back from three ACL tears to the same knee, and has become a key part of a Panthers defense that ranks third in yards allowed.

But his personal comeback has been impressive, after tearing his right ACL in 2009, then twice more. He’s now started 17 straight games, and with health, he’s producing as well as he ever did before the injury.

Congrats to one of the good guys. Don’t know if I have ever seen a better injury comeback story.

Very nice week for Thomas Davis but I thought Rams OLB Alec Ogletree should have won it this week. 7 tkls, 3 assists, FF and a 98 yd pick 6

He is a great player. His speed is so underrated.

Davis is a great story. But how about the state of modern sports medicine? It used to be the case that one ACL tear wrecked your career. Now guys are coming back from two and, yes, even three tears.

was already one of my favorite players in the league before his remarkable third comeback. he was a safety at georgia and it shows in the way he plays linebacker – guy is all over the field.

Tim Jennings on pick 6 and a int to seal the win didn’t get this award?

it’s a popularity contest – the most deserving seldom wins.

Detroit’s LB had 2 int’s to seal the game as well.

LOL @ the comments saying he doesn’t deserve it. You people are funny. Probably never played a down of football in your combined lives.

AJ Hawk was ripped off. Played probably the best game of his career.

A lot of players could state their case for NFC DEF player of the week. But TD has been through so much the last 3 years, and to have a break out game like that speaks volumes of his hard work to get back on the field.

    Congrads TD,

    Keep Pounding.

if it’s a popularity contest than why did a panther player win it? 3…count em 3 acl tears and he’s better than you’re favorite linebacker. show some love to TD

I don’t believe it is so much about the stats as it is the respective players’ impact on the game (including the stats, of course). Statistically, maybe not the best effort we saw this past weekend, but definitely hard to argue their was a performance more impactful. Keep lightin em up TD
