Roddy White will miss the first game of his NFL career

White AP

Falcons receiver Roddy White entered the league as a first-round pick in 2005.  He has had plenty of injuries, but he always has played.

Until now.

Roddy White officially is out for Sunday’s game against the Buccaneers with hamstring and ankle injuries.  The ankle injury is old, the hamstring injury is new, relatively speaking.

Also out are tackle Sam Baker (knee), tight end Chase Coffman (knee), and running back Steven Jackson (hamstring).

With receiver Julio Jones already on injured reserve, the pressure mounts on quarterback Matt Ryan to earn his big contract by helping the Falcons hold serve at home against the winless Bucs and avoid the basement of the NFC South.

I don’t hate Matt Ryan at all. However he has been blessed with a HOF tight end and two dominate pro bowl wr and he still can’t get it done. He just doesn’t have the tools

Correction, Roddy White will miss a game for the first time in his NFL career.

I still don’t understand why they didn’t rest him until he was at or near 100% considering the type of injury. This isn’t something that’ll get better if he keeps trying to run and cut on it while he’s still hurting.

Great Player , but the guy runs his mouth way to much. He and Richard Sherman were the best match up last year because both talk crap more than anyone….

Who is Matty Ryan going to throw to with his two top receivers gone?
Maybe he can borrow some no names from New England, I hear they ship them with the home field refs too as a perk.

Pretty remarkable that he hadn’t missed a game before.

Smooth move, Roddy. Instead of skipping the first few games and healing your ankle-sprain properly. You opted to gut it out, worsening your injury and compounding it by getting a new one. Now u shall feel my wrath and I will drop u from Team America.

I wonder if Tony G is starting to develop a craving for KC BBQ…

Always interesting when people think that a QB with great receivers should always be a big winner….ignoring the offensive line, running backs, defense and coaching, all which have ranged from average to poor in Atlanta the last several years.

Agree that Ryan has fallen somewhat short of expectations this year, but it’s hard to ignore what he’s accomplished for a team that had never even had back-to-back winning seasons until he arrived…..and if “the regular season doesn’t matter”, why does anyone bother to watch ?

Let’s go Bucs! You can do this!

Wait, he’s been playing this year? Weird, I haven’t noticed.

Matt Ryan is playing spectacular. 70% completion. 10 tds to 3 ints. On pace for his best year in every category. Just more idiot blog commentators not knowing what they’re talking about.

Maddie Ice is playing spectacular in the regular season. We all know how it will end. With his impersonation of a choking Peyton Manning. Failcants are destined to lose. The script has been written. Idiot coach and choking QB will see to it.

Well the idiot blog commentators may be on to something… Football is a team sport. Those statistics are great if you’re winning, but the Falcons are 1-4.

  21. randomcommenter says: Oct 19, 2013 1:16 AM

Falcons completely mishandled White’s injury and now by the time’s he’s back, their season will probably be done.

Why all the blame for Ryan? He’s holding up his end. It’s their terrible defense that has let them down.

  22. jacobslatter says: Oct 19, 2013 3:04 AM

No worries, there’ll be more 2 tight end sets with rookie sensation Levine Toilolo (2 TD’s this year) plus Kevin Cone & Drew Davis caught some nice passes in preseason plus Brian Robiskie the most NFL ready WR out of Ohio State his rookie year will set the league afire as the leagues MIP of 2013.

    Bucs 23, Falcons 17

He’s a vegan. Nobody wants a ring badly enough to begin craving barbecue soy patties.
