Falcons promote a wideout from practice squad

The Falcons are rapidly running out of wide receivers you’ve heard of, so they’re backfilling the roster with ones you haven’t.

According to Vaughn McClure of, the Falcons are promoting Darius Johnson from the practice squad today. They cleared the spot by cutting special teamer Shann Schillinger.

Johnson, an undrafted rookie from Southern Methodist, will fill in behind the stalwart receiving corps of Harry Douglas, Kevin Cone, Drew Davis and Brian Robiskie.

The Falcons have lost wide receiver Julio Jones for the year, and Roddy White will see his consecutive games streak snapped tomorrow against the Buccaneers because of ankle and hamstring injuries, leaving them short on targets.

Darius Johnson was a hoover in the pre-season, he caught everything in his neighborhood. Whether he can get open vs starters is another issue entirely.

Bucs fan here – the Falcons will win this week regardless of who plays receiver. The bucs run a zone scheme in the secondary that an elite QB like Ryan could pick apart in his sleep with high school kids. If Nick Foles can do it with Riley Cooper, what’s to stop Ryan with Gonzalez and Joe Schmo.

Jones and White are out and Gonzalez is an old man running around out there. Run game doesn’t exist for ATL so I think the winless Sucs have a legit chance to win this one.

Next man up Falcons, next man up. Lets see what Matt is really made of.

After extending Terrell Owens carreer by at least two years, everyone said Romo would sink when T O was released.

Romo took undrafted FA Mies Austin and made him a pro bowl player with 1300 yards and 11 tds.

When Miles could not stay healthy, the next year Romo took Laurent Robinson from the trash heap and in 14 games and 4 starts, tossed to him for almost 900 yards and 11 tds

Next up is Terrence Williams. NEXT MAN UP, FALCONS!!!
