Jake Locker will start for the Titans on Sunday

Locker AP

If Colin Kaepernick still has a chip on his shoulder about the Titans’ decision to pick Jake Locker, Kaepernick will have a chance to prove that the Titans made a mistake on Sunday.

PFT has confirmed that Locker will indeed start the game against the 49ers.  The news was first reported by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.  (See, guys?  It’s not that hard to give others credit.)

Locker had been cleared for contact on Thursday.  On Friday’s edition of Pro Football Talk on NBCSN, Peter King of TheMMQB.com said that Locker could indeed play.

Locker suffered what appeared to be a serious hip injury three weeks ago.  Initial reports elsewhere had Locker “likely” headed for injured reserve, with a designation to return.

That would have knocked him out for eight weeks.  In the end, he will have missed only two.

I just hope the choice does not backfire!

Well I hope he’s healthy to do this so early. Things didn’t exactly work out for RG3 since his attempt to play thru an initial injury, let’s hope there’s no similarities in the end result.

LOL! This should put them over the top…

Have you seen how Locker and Kap have played so far this season? If this is a glimpse of the future, the Titans easily made the right pick. I wish Kaepernick, Dalton, Ponder, Mallet, Yates, Tyrod Taylor, and even Gabbert the best, but with each passing week, I get more and more convinced that Locker was the right choice for 2011.

Once again, he reminds me of Steve McNair. Let me guess … He’s going to show up tomorrow on crutches and then play lights out?

I wonder if tenesseeoilers typed that with a straight keyboard?

    Get Jake’s locker ready.

  8. ninerdud says: Oct 19, 2013 12:40 PM

Locker: 62% completion, 180 ypg, 6.5 ypa, Titans 3-1 in his starts.

Kap: 55%, 203 ypg, 7.6 ypa, Niners 4-2 in his starts.

Locker was completing passes at a higher rate and not turning the ball over. Neither guy is lighting it up but I don’t think you can say that Locker was clearly playing better or even has a better future.

Hope he’s actually ready, would hate to see this be an RGIII situation.

  9. tennesseeoilers says: Oct 19, 2013 12:51 PM

Hey Ninerdud, let’s not be so selective with our stats:

Kap has 5 picks, 3 fumbles and an 83.9 passer rating.

Locker has zero turnovers and a 99 passer rating.

  10. tennesseeoilers says: Oct 19, 2013 12:53 PM

P.S. To be fair, I shouldn’t have included one of Kap’s picks which was thrown in the last two games.

  11. jjrs89 says: Oct 19, 2013 12:56 PM

Just hope we arent rushing Jake back to early. As much as I know we need him to win, a setback could end our season.

  12. ninerdud says: Oct 19, 2013 1:01 PM

tennessee: I did say that Locker hasn’t turned the ball over and has completed more passes. That’s where’s done better than Kap. Neither guy is a worldbeater right now. Kap is getting the ball farther down field and not dinking and dunking, but Locker is more efficient. They’re both young QB’s and still raw.

yaaawwwn comparing kap to that bust locker..kap already took us deep in the playoffs and an nfc championship and 2 division titles. Locker?? i dont even know when they’ll make the playoffs let alone win anything big NOBODY is worried about the oilers sorry….

  16. mikesmajormojo says: Oct 19, 2013 1:20 PM

Locker at 75% is a big improvement over Fitzpatrick at 100% but it’s still surprising they’d trot him out vs the 49er’s D with their bye coming next week.

  17. ninerswilldominatelikebefore says: Oct 19, 2013 1:20 PM

p.s our pass rush. yes even without smith our pass rush is going to make locker he take an extra week off….

  18. titans12thman says: Oct 19, 2013 1:26 PM

Great news, i hope he is 100% tomorrow…I smell an upset brewing and if we beat san fran and keep locker clean, we are going to be dangerous coming out of our bye week

    Go Blue!!

  19. southpaw79 says: Oct 19, 2013 1:37 PM

A new starting center and your putting your injured QB in early, for a non division game, before your bye week. At first the Titan’s were at risk of just losing a game, now they could be risking their season.

  20. grambo2014 says: Oct 19, 2013 1:52 PM

Best of luck Jake, you may not have been able to play against the Hawks but you can do the city of Seattle a big favor this weekend!

Kap took ya’ll to 2 division titles? Really? I remember one, but can you enlighten me as to when/how he “took” you to the other?

  22. ctiggs says: Oct 19, 2013 2:32 PM

    Jake the fake

  23. ctiggs says: Oct 19, 2013 2:43 PM

lol like i said i hope fake locker is back to get knocked right back out the game, by our swarming defense. Kap is worlds better than locker, and plus we are playing and beating actual good teams. Kap will be back to playoff form when we get our WR back, how fast people tend to forget. Locket should have been picked in the 4th round, he is not very good. #goNINERS

  24. assuredmutualdestruction says: Oct 19, 2013 2:43 PM

Locker has a ton of heart. You got to love a guy like him. Make it loud for these frisco boys and they’ll fold Titans fans. With that defense at home, you guys have a shot at winning this game. Rattle Kaep and it’s over. I got Titans in this game 19-13.

  25. dhillca says: Oct 19, 2013 2:53 PM

Kap lead to two titles? Didn’t he get moved from backup just last year??
    Hmmmm

  26. assuredmutualdestruction says: Oct 19, 2013 2:58 PM

    Dear Titans Defensive Coordinator,
Please double team Vernon Davis and jam Anquan Boldin at the line of scrimmage. And mix in some run blitzes right at Kaep/Gore on the read option fakes. Your defense is stout, take it to these heartless niners.

Sincerely, All football fans outside of Frisco.

  27. dedicatedhawkfan says: Oct 19, 2013 3:01 PM

“… Kap will be back to playoff form when we get our WR back, how fast people tend to forget…”

personally I would want a QB that is in playoff form regardless. Saying he needs certain players to be in playoff form is hardly a compliment.

  28. assuredmutualdestruction says: Oct 19, 2013 3:21 PM

Having watched the niners and Titans both play in Seattle, I definitely came away with the impression that TEN was more physical and better defensively than frisco. I wouldn’t be shocked if the home team wins this game, and I wouldn’t be shocked if they made it look easy.

  29. paychrisjohnson28 says: Oct 19, 2013 3:29 PM

I just hope the Titans with Locker can beat the 49ers this week…a big difference from 4-3 record to 3-4 record…

  30. goldrush36 says: Oct 19, 2013 3:52 PM

Seattle fans lives seem to revolve around any post niners related in any capacity. What a sad existance it must be living in the Pacific northwest

Ctiggs, who are these good teams you’re talking about? I know about your games against the Seahawks and Colts … You know, the teams that blew the 49ers out?

His new name should be CJ0.345K, he is terrible what a bust.

  33. baybomber77 says: Oct 19, 2013 4:53 PM

First of all, as a niner fan I wish locker and the titans the best of luck this year. I don’t want them to win tomorrow.

Tennesseeoilers, while kapernick has more int’s and fumbles locker hasnt played for two weeks. In those two weeks the titans have lost to teams that are stronger than the first several opponents they have faced.

The titans organization is not at the same level as the niners. Realistically…niners have 5 Super Bowl rings while Tennessee is looking for one. I think that the titans are headed in the right direction. They needed a better QB and appear to have found one.

  34. seatownballers says: Oct 19, 2013 4:59 PM

    Low scoring game

  35. flipola says: Oct 19, 2013 5:16 PM

A hurt Locker is better than a healthy Fitz. With the AFC playoff race as tight as it is, every game is must-win. Colts will likely take the division, KC will take a wild card. That leaves one spot, with really only Baltimore and maybe Miami standing in the way. I can see it, if Locker can keep healthy.

  36. assuredmutualdestruction says: Oct 19, 2013 6:02 PM

The best defense on the field for this game will be wearing blue.

  37. blackhawks2010 says: Oct 19, 2013 6:36 PM

For a Niners fan to say Seahawks fans live for Niners posts is funny. As a fan of neither, it’s funny watching Niners fans obsess on the past and criticizing Seattle. Bottom line, it’s spite and jealousy of a team that completely brutalized the Niners. Enjoy watching your Niners SB wins on VHS, Niners bandwagon.

  38. dodohead418 says: Oct 19, 2013 8:28 PM

In any event, this will a huge game for Brian Schwenke to show his potential!

  39. braceyourselffor12 says: Oct 19, 2013 10:07 PM

    @ blackhawks2010

For someone claiming to have no dog in the fight YOU certainly post on a lot of Niner articles as a quasi Seahack troll.

Could it be the last time Chicago played the Niners YOUR team was brutalized. And afterward floundered out of playoff contention. Not even Packer fans are that petty. But then again both of our franchises have a rich history.

While Chicago and Seattle share a history of being overrated during the regular season then crash and burning come playoffs.

  40. thebirdofprey2 says: Oct 19, 2013 11:19 PM

I watched both teams and I think the Titans defense created more problems especially with their secondary. They have one CB playing lights out and solid safeties that don’t let up big runs or passes.

Fitzpatrick held them back because he is a turnover machine. Jake Locker looked like it was all clicking for him before he went down. I don’t know why Chris Johnson can’t get anything going. The Titans may grind out a win a home this weekend.
