While it’s easy to overstate the importance of the read option as a trend, Colin Kaepernick just showed you still have to plan for it.

The 49ers quarterback just made the right call to keep it, and turned in a 20-yard touchdown run to give his team a 10-0 lead over the Titans.

It was his first touchdown run of the season, after an offseason spent discussing how to stop some of the late-season success he had with the read option last year.

Titans quarterback Jake Locker looked solid early in his first start back after a hip injury, but just threw a bad interception. It was his first pick of the year, and harkened back to the Ryan Fitzpatrick era.
