Panthers get to .500 by winning brawl with Rams

St Louis Rams v Carolina Panthers Getty Images

Whether the war can be won remains to be seen. But the Panthers won the battle, and the fight.

On a day when Rams defensive end Chris Long was ejected for throwing a punch, and there were numerous smaller scrimmages between two aggressive teams, the Panthers escaped with a 30-15 win.

It marks the first winning streak under coach Ron Rivera that didn’t include a game in December, and gets them to .500 for the first time since a 1-1 start in 2012 (which was followed by five straight losses).

Whether it’s a sign of true progress or another jury of their peers game (after beating the combined 1-10 Vikings and Giants), we’ll find out, and Thursday’s trip to Tampa Bay might not tell us more.

But the Panthers are playing incredible defense at the moment, and Cam Newton isn’t making mistakes (15-of-17 passing for 204 yards and a touchdown). On a day when they got a defensive touchdown and forced three turnovers, that was enough.

We didn’t start out 2-8!!!! Quick, have Rivera sign a contract for 5 more years!

The zebras were hardcore Panther fans. Let 4 panthers get on 1 ram, throw the flag! Don’y wait for benches to get up and punch to be thrown. Then the obvious leg shove of Sam Bradford as his momentum 100% out of bounds and no call?

Oh and um sick of Brian Schotwhatever dink and dunks calls. The NFL is aware of his weak game plans. Then Rams receivers cant catch touchdowns. Poor Austin. Every time he scores or has long returns, the other rams commit penalties. We got speed. Off coordinator, use it. Then they start throwing down feild in 4th qtr. cause catching up. Duh, u need to do that during whole game so secondary can respect the deep throws but Shotty jr has gotta get toss to the curb literally.

If Cam plays clean games, the Panthers are legit, could be in contention for that 2nd wildcard spot.

Steve Smith is a big baby. “Jenkins talkin trash bout my family” Boo Hoo. Think he wants hugs and kisses from cornerbacks.

Except he backed up his talk by torching Jenkins….

@rams1999 Steve Smith is a master of mind games and has been for years, its part of what makes him so great and a future HOFer IMO. What you are whining about was Smith moving into check mate. If you dont like it then advise your team to employ players of higher intelligence than Janoris Jenkins.

Also, the “dink and dunk” was a specific game plan in this game. The Panthers allow those plays and keep 7 in coverage defending against the deep ball. Your OC may need the boot but not for the game plan today. Your problem is execution and immaturity…and given draft position, and contract, Bradford is a bust.

Amd seriously? Whining about the refs? Thats faux pas playa

Read the post correctly. It said Jenkins was talkin trash. So you do agree about him being a big baby who wants DB’s to french kiss em instead of doing what all DB’s do. At least as a Panther fan, u admit that.

Yeah, Rams were afraid of your secondary. Each time we burned them, penalties. Youre right about the immaturity in penalties but that is and has been Shottys game plan for all games. Pay attention. Oh and the Bust thing, im sorry who is youre QB? The elite Cam Newton? Cmon. Hes been considered a bust and also whines. Rivera must whine during team meetings cause why is this team cry so much?
I rooted for them in SB loss. Smith is a HOFer. No one said he sucked. Only that he should shed tears in private and not in public. He and newton need to console each other every Monday. You know weak Rivera is out after season.

Considering they kept him for this season, they probably will.

Please look up Cam Newton’s broken records in the NFL and tell me how he is a bust, @rams1999?

Don’t confuse him with facts. He currently has a better passer rating than four SB winning QB’s like Brady, Flacco, Manning, Roethisberger…and better than some of the young media darlings like RG3, Luck, and Kaepernick but yea, lets call him a bust.

The push out of bounds was clean since the push was still in the field of play. Not sure why you would even bring that up.

Never could figure out why these young DB’s want to try and piss Smith off. He plays better when he is pissed off.

Yeah stats make a QB elite. We aint talkin fantasy football. Do u honestly see leadership in him? His crybaby Smith even agreed last season about his whining. But smith whined himself yesterday.

HMM, i wonder whos responding to me fans of?

Let me make say whatbu wanna hear:
*Cam Newton is a leader and a team player.
    *Panthers will make playoffs
*Ron Rivera, Coach of year, time for another extension.
    Happy?

Do I see leadership? Yeah I do. Considering this guy has won all kinds of championships as the QB of his team. But the fact your saying “his crybaby Smith” makes me realize this is a useless argument against a 12-year-old.
