Source: Bradford has torn ACL

Getty Images

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford injured his knee on Sunday.  The Rams feared he has a torn ACL.  (Which is typically the fear when a guy injures his knee.)

Per a league source, those fears have come to fruition.  Bradford has a torn ACL.

The diagnosis has been made via MRI performed on Sunday night.  Bradford will undoubtedly have surgery, and he’ll be done for the rest of the year.

The Rams now will hand the reins to Kellen Clemens — unless and until they add someone who wrests the job away from him.

Well this just bums me out. Hopefully Bradford gets well soon and Kellen Clemens may not be the shiniest name around (of course he could change it to something with high octane bling-factor), but he’s on the roster as a veteran for a reason. The old man always had some skills tucked away for just the occasion that his number might be called.

Plus there’s like a ton of cheapies available by trade if they can’t find an in-house silver lining to this unfortunate tragedy.

Too bad. Always prefer to play people at their best. Hope Bradford fully recovers.

God no. As a Ram fan im very upset K.Clemens is our back up. Rams should have never let Thad Lewis go. That extra shove to the leg as Bradfords momentum was 150% going out of bounds did it and no flag. Zebras were horrible. Letting a 4 panther on 1 ram shoves go and let it esculate to where refs lost control. Flag should have been thrown when the 4 panthers rushed the lone ram(kinda like wussy wanksters) and no brawl would have happened.

Bradford was putting up the best numbers of his career. I feel bad for him. With the timeframes AP, Charles and RG3 have established hopefully he’ll be at full strength by 2014.

  5. bmcgrath2 says: Oct 20, 2013 11:32 PM

Rick Spielman should be on the phone right now shopping Christian Ponder, or Matt Cassel. Preferably Christian Ponder.

  6. pnut87 says: Oct 20, 2013 11:35 PM

And is already screaming Tebow Time for the Rams. Go figure…

By the way, how’s Brett Favre doing?

  7. mrwalterisgod says: Oct 20, 2013 11:35 PM

Kellen Clemens gets the honor of playing against Michael Bennett, Bruce Irvin, Chris Clemons, and Cliff Avril on pass rush downs.

Good luck bub. You’re gonna need it Monday night.

  8. duluthvikesfan says: Oct 20, 2013 11:36 PM

Give Minnesota the Rams first round pick next year for Ponder!

  15. onebucplace says: Oct 20, 2013 11:42 PM

So at least 3 starting QBs out for extended periods of time since Schiano, in his dumbass ways, cut Josh Freeman. I mean if you’re going to release the guys medical records and bury him in the media why wouldn’t you go ahead and hold onto him for a couple of weeks to see if you could trade him for something. The incompetence of Schiano and his crew is truly mind blowing.

  24. blacknole08 says: Oct 20, 2013 11:51 PM

Wow tough break for the Rams. I’m rooting for him. The Rams got a good young squad and he was slowly starting to come into his own.

Good luck with the rehab Sam.

Hard to believe so many injuries are happening to such high profile players. Give Tebow a shot. The guy may not throw like you would want your QB to throw, but I have to give him credit. The man knows how to win football games.

  33. skito13 says: Oct 21, 2013 12:02 AM

To bad Rams were starting to gel. Injuries are part of the game surprised there weren’t more refs let this one get way out of hand….

  38. rajbais says: Oct 21, 2013 12:06 AM

Big dilemma for Rams, re-sign a rehabbing Bradford or pick a QB in the 2014 draft.

It’s sad to see this happen, but Bradford’s 2013 play had not progressed to franchise level status.

Hopefully he’s ready anyplace he goes.

  39. pbolyard says: Oct 21, 2013 12:07 AM

    Tebow time??

  40. kicksave1980 says: Oct 21, 2013 12:12 AM

Great. I’m not 100% sold on Bradford as it is, but being a Rams fan is tough sometimes. Just when it looked like I had reason for optimism in a season, this happens. All that said, I’m sending positive thoughts Sam’s way, and hopefully he’ll be able to come back stronger than ever. Never want to see that type of injury happen to anyone, regardless of who you cheer for.

  41. vikingdoode says: Oct 21, 2013 12:18 AM

  50. warnertobruceallday says: Oct 21, 2013 12:47 AM

Im not worried. Jeff Fisher always has a plan its why hes coaching our dynasty. U can hate all u want but Sam Bradford has shown time and time again he is a top 5 qb. The league needs to be scared when he comes back from this

  51. vikes89allday says: Oct 21, 2013 12:55 AM

Ponder might be available now that The Vikings picked up Freeman.

  57. cluelessdufus says: Oct 21, 2013 2:37 AM

This is bad for both sides. The Rams have no idea if Bradford is the answer and now this is his final year in his rookie contract. They needed to know if he is worth an extension and coming off a torn ACL doesn’t help either. Whether Bradford has played his last snap in a Rams uniform, his next extension probably isn’t the one he was looking for.

  58. drfeelyouup says: Oct 21, 2013 2:39 AM

That sucks he is injured, no one should wish ill will on the man. That being said, the guy is waaaaaay over paid for his production.

  59. zoneblocking54 says: Oct 21, 2013 2:46 AM

bradford was doing very good this season. Tebow would be a good pick up if you can teach him how to release the ball? young would be ok. just let him roll.

  60. brenenostler says: Oct 21, 2013 3:05 AM

I think a trade for Matt Cassel would make sense

  61. mclovin07 says: Oct 21, 2013 3:34 AM

    Kellen Clemens??

Good lord I thought he was working at Burger King or something how are some of these guys in the league yet??!!!

Terrible blow to the Rams team. Already not very good. But they really aren’t good now.

  65. muhammad34 says: Oct 21, 2013 7:01 AM

Awful news. Bradford was having a great season. Almost half way through the year and the kid was in the top 5 for touchdowns. He’s definitely one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL. I hope he makes a full recovery.

  66. Rockets GM says: Oct 21, 2013 7:24 AM

Didn’t he blow out his knee in college? And if so, which one was it?

  67. janessa31888 says: Oct 21, 2013 7:42 AM

Its been a rough year for quarterbacks. Lots of injuries and two torn ACLs. I hope both Sam and Brian Hoyer have complete recoveries.

    Has the Bradford era ended?!

  69. savior72 says: Oct 21, 2013 8:35 AM

Heard they’re thinking about giving Tebow a call

  70. bigredgoog says: Oct 21, 2013 8:37 AM

Matt Schaub might be available. Texans probably moving on from Schaub and might as well get some value for him (picks or player). The Texans would probably have to keep the financial hit so the trade could occur.

  71. agelardi says: Oct 21, 2013 8:38 AM

If Kellen Clemens is their QB for the rest of the year, I doubt they’ll win another game this year.

  72. hailskins94 says: Oct 21, 2013 8:48 AM

The rams need to definately draft one, maybe two qbs with the Redskins pick next May. Bradford just isn’t going to cut it.

  74. deathmonkey41 says: Oct 21, 2013 9:14 AM

If any of the Rams braintrust is reading this- I impore you- please don’t sign that loser Tebow. The season is painful enough- we don’t need that scrub shotputting wounded ducks to opposing cornerbacks and then holding press conferences about how he hasn’t lost his faith in God. I’d rather just lose out with Clemens and get a high draft pick.

  75. discosucs2005 says: Oct 21, 2013 9:18 AM

Bradford was great at Oklahoma, but has had a hard luck career in the NFL. I hope he has a speedy recovery and I’m looking forward to seeing him test my Niners next time he’s behind center when we ravel to St. Louis.

  76. romosmicrodongs says: Oct 21, 2013 9:31 AM

You might be very surprised how he would fit in with your offense. Cignetti and Schottenheimer, give him a look-see. Talk to Fisher and give him a shot!

  82. docboss says: Oct 21, 2013 1:46 PM

A 7-9 team just became a 4-12 team. Unfortunately the Rams needed to fill so many positions and had so little cap space, they had to rely on Clemens and not sign or develop a real backup. Seahawks will likely crush the Rams on Monday. I guess I’ll be looking at the 2014 draft sites more often now. Maybe Clemens will be the next Kurt Warner!

  83. cornedbeefhashinacan says: Oct 21, 2013 5:42 PM
