Champ Bailey expected to miss Week Eight

The Broncos face the Redskins in Week Eight, a game that might have special meaning for cornerback Champ Bailey.

Bailey started his NFL career in Washington before being traded to the Broncos, who were coached by current Redskins coach Mike Shanahan at the time, but it doesn’t look like he’ll be in the lineup against his former club. Bailey reinjured his left foot in Sunday night’s loss to the Colts and it looks like the injury that kept him out for the first five games of the year will force him out once more.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports that an MRI turned up no new injury or structural damage to Bailey’s foot, but the message from the Broncos was still one of caution about next steps with Bailey’s tender foot.

Coach John Fox termed Bailey’s status as “week-to-week” on Monday, a suggestion that this week is one that the Broncos will have to go without the veteran cornerback. The Broncos have a bye in Week Nine, which would give Bailey two weeks to rest and rehab the foot before the next decision about whether he’ll be on the field.

  1. Seriously, after 900 years as an elite DB I think it’s safe to say that Bailey’s days in the NFL are done. This may not be turf toe but he looks like Deion in his last days.

  2. Well, well Chump Bailey…he didn’t want to play in Washington and decided he wanted go somewhere he’d win a Super bowl…how did or has that worked out for you Mr. Bailey??? Yes you were once a good corner, but then again that’s not saying much considering how poorly most DB’s play in the league…i.e. lack of tackling and coverage skills, I see very few if any who actually look back for the ball.

  3. He had good coverage when targeted against the Colts. A few luck just put on the $ and there was nothing he could do. He tackles very well, its just a matter of durability. His game against Jax was not good, but first game action of the year that is come to be expected.

  4. one word: Safety. Champ could play free safety and read qb’s and get some pix holding tight ends and rb’s. Crush the ego champ and help the team.
