Chiefs finish uncanny climb to the top

Charles

Lost in the Broncos’ inability to outscore the Colts was the fact that the outcome left only one undefeated team in the AFC West, the AFC, and the NFL.

A year after going 2-14, the Chiefs are the last unbeaten team standing, at 7-0.

And so the Chiefs claim the top spot in the PFT power rankings, unless and until they lose.

A loss may not be coming this weekend, given that the Browns will be limping into Arrowhead Stadium. After that, the Chiefs will get a bit of a test at Buffalo.

And then it gets interesting. Following a Week 10 bye, it’ll be Broncos-Chargers-Broncos in a 15-day span.

The Chiefs then finish with three of four on the road, at Oakland, Washington, and San Diego. In Week 16, the Colts come to town.

While it’s still way too early for the ’72 Dolphins to worry about not being able to pop their champagne, the Chiefs this year will unexpectedly get the honors of being the team, if any, that allows the cork to be fired into the mouth of Mercury Morris.
