New poll names Vick most disliked NFL player

Vick AP

Eagles coach Chip Kelly liked Mike Vick enough to make him the team’s starting quarterback for 2013.  But Kelly may be in the minority.

Via Forbes.com, a new poll of 1,100 ages 13 and up shows that Vick is the most disliked NFL player.  Fifty-three percent of the people who responded to the poll expressed dislike for Vick.

Coming in second at 48 percent was Chargers likebacker Manti Te’o.  Next, at 43 percent, was Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

The top (bottom?) three were followed by Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (40 percent), Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez (40 percent), Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (33 percent), Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo (32 percent), Patriots quarterback Tom Brady (25 percent), Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (24 percent), and Lions running back Reggie Bush (22 percent).

Perhaps the more accurate name for the poll would be “most polarizing NFL players,” since plenty of people surely like each of the names listed.  It’d be interesting to see how these 10 players would rank on a poll of the league’s most liked players.

Our guess is that the net result of dislikes and likes would have Roethlisberger and Cutler at the top.

    So what you’re saying is that 53%+48%+43%+40%+40%+33%+32%+25%+24%+22% = 100%

Whoever did that poll must work for the gov’t….

Well, she did say she would show everyone she was no. 1–well done Miss Vicky. I wonder what that fine human being of a brother he has said on Twitter about this.

Wha-?!? Brandon Meriweather is trying to end guys’ careers and isn’t in the “top” ten? I want someone to explain that to me.

  8. 4thquartermagic says: Oct 22, 2013 4:32 PM

Just like for the Heisman, Teo coming in second.

Poor dude. Always the bridesmaid never the bride.

  9. slugbaitspace says: Oct 22, 2013 4:34 PM

Unless people think that the fake dead girlfriend is some sort egregious ploy he masterminded, what the hell did Te’o do to have more people dislike him than Suh?

Seriously, was he caught strangling kittens or something? I haven’t read anything about him that makes me think, “Yeah, this guy definitely belongs on this list”, much less taking the #2 spot.

With that said, if the poll was “the most disappointing NFL rookie”, I would at least consider him for that list…

What has Tom Brady ever done to be in the top 10 most disliked players?

  13. captainwisdom8888 says: Oct 22, 2013 4:41 PM

Does this poll refer to who is the most disliked player concerning his ability to play the game, or is it about who is the most disliked player concerning his personal life outside of the game of football? These guys are professional football players, not professional models of behavior, and I believe they should be evaluated first as football players and second as to their character outside of football. If you want to pretend you ACTUALLY know who Mike Vick is, just because of a mistake he made some 5 years ago, than that would point towards pure ignorance on your part. If you poll all of the “non-fans” of football who are more interested in the media-fueled soap opera surrounding the game, as opposed to the game itself, than yeah I would expect Vick to be the most disliked player in the NFL.

If you knew absolutely nothing about Mike Vick and had met him, say walking down the street, and you had nothing but a pleasant interaction with him, you would be left feeling like he’s a good guy. The point I’m trying to make is that Mike Vick SHOULD NOT BE DEFINED ENTIRELY by those mistakes he made 5 years ago. All you really know about Vick is his past involvement in dogfighting, and to draw a complete conclusion as to who he is as a person because of what you saw on TV doesn’t speak highly of yourself. Imagine if your most regrettable moments were polarized and made public, than for the rest of your days that is all you were known for….you wouldn’t think that to be fair at all.

People would like Cutler a whole lot more if they listened to his radio show. The guy is really funny.

They’d also like him more if idiots didn’t base opinions of people on how much they like their facial expressions. But that’s a lot to ask, right?

  19. channelguy says: Oct 22, 2013 4:47 PM

T’eo? Brady? Sanchez? What are these guys doing on the list. Brady seems to be on because some people resent successful people married to supermodels. And the other two seem to be on because they havent been as good as they were expected to be — which isn’t exactly a reason to DISLIKE someone.

Just another silly poll created to make some news.

Manti Te’o? Why? I mean it was kinda funny but he didn’t anyone. I doubt the people voting have even seen 2 Charger Games

As for the rest of the list excluding Suh….pointless…

because Carson Palmer and Reggie Bush are plotting world domination I guess.

The percentages refer to the percent of people polled who expressed dislike for that particular player and thus are neither cumulative percentages nor mutually exclusive options: a participant can dislike Vick AND Teo, not one more than the other.

Of course as I explain this, I realize if you were too lazy to read the article to figure this out and not just scan the numbers and blurt the first comment that came to mind, you’re probably not reading this explanation either.

I think most people dislike Te’o because of all the massive over-hype ESPN did last year. ESPN pretty much single handidly pushed him into the Heisman race, and then all the constant coverage of the fake girlfriend.

  45. aaronmushrush says: Oct 22, 2013 6:27 PM

I laugh at this. The story of Michael Vick is the story of America. A story of power-thirst, money, and greed leading to poor decisions, suffering the consequences and paying your dues, all while keeping focused as the ultimate weapon, apex competitor, waiting and biding your time until the oppurtun moment arises to rise from the ashes and be right back where you were, this time all the more wiser. Mike then became content and began to lose. insert a new way of thinking and an unprecedented qb controversy, the likes the NFL has yet to see, and again he arises, and arises better than ever. The story of MV7 is the story of the USA. So keep hating I guess and Mike will do what he does best under fire just like America will do against scrutiny, rise. E-A-G-L-E-S

Cutler manages to play at a high level with a disease that would kill him if left untreated. That’s pretty tough, but I figure you must know all about toughness, making critical comments of someone actually accomplishing something against the odds makes you the model of masculinity.

I am not really a Vick hater, but lets not pretend he had a simple lapse in judgement either. He did not make one quick, dumb mistake that changed his life. He ran and funded a dog fighting ring for years and took part in the torturing of the animals. There is a difference between looking beyond his history and trying to ignore it completely.

Amazing how some of you are getting more bent out of shape over this than the people actually listed in the article lol. You really think Vick, Brady, Roethlisberger, etc are sitting at home thinking “Oh my what did I do to deserve this??” Of course not! they’re sitting there, collecting their millions of dollars, living their life and realizing it’s just a game and they’re going to have people hating. I can’t stand Brady, reason why? He’s good. That simple, he kicks my teams ass when they play against him. Get over it and move on with your day

  63. comeonnowguys says: Oct 23, 2013 10:15 AM

    1) Look at the most liked players, and then tell us how racist this list is.

    2) Te’o is a moth to the camera. He was annoying *before* the fake girlfriend story was brought to light and he still lied about it. His father also does him no favors with his “How dare you show my son getting trucked during a loss” act.

    3) I’m in with the “How is Meriweather not on this list” crowd.

    4) Perhaps Brady’s tantrums are finally wearing on people?
