In March the Broncos released Elvis Dumervil -- despite having a verbal agreement in place for a new contract -- because Dumervil’s agent didn’t fax the signed contract to the Broncos in time. That resulted in Dumervil firing agent Marty Magid, and now it has resulted in the players’ union cracking down on Magid as well.
The NFL Players Association has announced that its Committee on Agent Regulation and Discipline suspended Magid’s certification for six months and fined him $25,000.
A statement from the NFLPA says that the union “determined that the negligence of Magid, former certified contractor advisor for Elvis Dumervil, contributed to the events that led to the Denver Broncos’ release of Dumervil in March 2013.”
Magid has the right to appeal the fine and suspension before an arbitrator.
Things worked out OK in the end for Dumervil, who ended up signing a five-year, $26 million contract with the Ravens. But the NFLPA also said it is still considering action against the Broncos for conduct that may have violated Dumervil’s rights under the CBA.
