Report: Dennis Pitta working out, not close to returning

Super Bowl XLVII - Baltimore Ravens v San Francisco 49ers Getty Images

The Ravens stashed tight end Dennis Pitta on injured reserve with the possibility of returning at the start of the season in hopes of getting a late-season contribution from the tight end after he recovered from a preseason hip injury.

Pitta is eligible to start practicing with the team and would be free to play in the Ravens’ Week Nine game because he’d have spent the necessary eight weeks on injured reserve, but it doesn’t sound like that’s a realistic possibility.

Ed Werder of ESPN reports that that Pitta has been working out regularly as part of his rehab from the injury and the team still expects that he’ll be able to make it back this season, although the projected date of that return is about a month away. Per Werder, Baltimore anticipates Pitta being out through mid-to-late November before he will make it back onto the field.

Dallas Clark leads Ravens tight ends with 23 catches for 265 yards this season while Ed Dickson has caught just seven passes and heard coach John Harbaugh castigate him for regressing in recent years. Getting Pitta, who had 61 catches last season, back would help a scuffling offense, but it looks like they’ll need to find help elsewhere a little while longer.

Just gotta win 3 of the next four, and it’ll be worth him actually coming back. If not, might as well shelf him until next year.

Cleveland’s Jordan Cameron is having a monster year… and… Cincinnati’s Jermaine Gresham is undependable and lacks explosiveness.

Stay on IR Pitta, your team just got smoked by a 1 win team. No need to hurry back.

  4. itsfootballbaby says: Oct 22, 2013 5:28 PM

Smoked? Really? When did a last second field goal win qualify as smoking your opponent? Dude, take off the yellow and black glasses.

  5. hakunamangata says: Oct 22, 2013 6:12 PM

So now being a one win team is a point of pride? Only in Pittsburgh I suppose.

Might as well have been smoked – a loss is a loss – this one counts as much as the Denver loss. But it was merely a point that for all the doom and gloom bashing dished out (where’s that Owen clown by the way), I guess that team ain’t so bad, and most definitely not out of it. But in case you missed it, I thought it was the typical, great game.

Sure youcallthat – he said the Steelers have more SBs than the Ravens, he doesn’t care that they’ve been in the league a shorter time, and he feels Flacco’s contract will hinder the team in their bid to return, for many years to come. Hey winorlose, type slower for youcallthat next time.

Joe Flacco didn’t get any free cheese this time, and the Ravens lost.

No Jacoby Jones kick returns to bail him out like when he should’ve lost to crippled Leftwich last year. No Rice scrambles to turn a one-yard dumpoff into an impossible 29-yard first down. No interception returns for TDs to cover for his 53-yard passing halves like against the Texans.

But hey, he’s worth that big contract all the way…

    And remember boys and girls…

    IT’S ALL CAM’S FAULT!!!!!!

It is no secret that the Ravens are scuffling this year. And it is no secret that the Steelers fans are proud of their team having beat a scuffling Ravens team.

Yo StillersNation (thats is all of yinz rooting foer the Steelers), we know how much a win over the Ravens means to you. It’s like getting half off at the Dollar General.

    Keep it classy.

Yeah, Steelers are 2-4 and still behind the Ravens in the Standings. But keep talking trash morons.

The Lombardi is still on 1 Winning Drive, about 5 minutes from my house.

    Sincerely, World Champs

Its the “we have more Lombardi trophies and Flacco sucks argument”. That’s original.

I’d hate to bring facts to the board, but did some Steeler fan say it the Ravens too long (at 10 years) to win their second Super Bowl?

Pittsburgh had a nice run in the late 70s but did that poster forget Pittsburgh’s didnt win an nfl championship until 1974?

54 years after the league started.

Or forget that Pittsburgh had another 27 year drought in the 80-90s until 2005?

  18. crownofthehelmet says: Oct 24, 2013 2:58 PM

youcallthat, I just thought you wanted it translated, not that I disagree though. But technically, he didn’t say Flacco sucked, just that he’s overpaid.

And sbchampsagain, I completely agree that past SBs have no impact. And comparing two teams with such a big difference in how long they’ve been around, almost impossible to do. The only real comparison you can do is how the teams have fared during the time they’ve both been in the league. Or since 1996, unless you count your Browns history too.
