Vick on being disliked: “I care nothing about that”

Eagles quarterback Mike Vick recently was named the most disliked player in the NFL.  Vick neither dislikes nor likes the designation.

I care nothing about that,” Vick said Tuesday via Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com.   “I care nothing about the people who dislike me.  I care nothing about the people who still have ill feelings about me.  What matters most to me is the people that I do know care about me and that’s something you can never take away from me.

“So, I don’t feed into all that.  People are entitled to their own opinions, and I respect it.  Just let me do what I do and let me be me.  As long as I’ve got my freedom, my health and my family, nothing else matters.”

Vick has the right attitude.  He understands people aren’t going to like him, and he doesn’t care.  He just keeps doing what he does.

Anyone who does anything in the public eye will always have people who don’t like them.  It goes with the territory, and it’s a small price to pay for being, as Vick is, well compensated to do something he loves to do.

So, basically, we like him for not caring about whether people don’t like him.

  1. I’m an Eagles fan and even I can’t stand the guy. I’m counting down the days until the season is over so he’s off my team. But it has nothing to do with his past, it’s the fact that he’s such a bad QB. So I can definitely see him being voted most disliked. Most of the Eagles fanbase can’t stand him.

  2. he couldve just said no comment but no he had to vomit on the english language again. within his answer lies the reason why hes #1. he sucks.

  3. If he went 19-0 this year there would still be somebody out there that doesn’t like him. You can’t please everybody, but you can control how many games you win along the way of being disliked.

  4. What else is he going to say, that he loses sleep at night over his detractors? If his quotes had been attributed to Brady or another media darling, he would be lauded for his maturity and class. However, because he is Mike Vick, I can only imagine the backlash he will get from his comments.

Good job Michael. You have paid your dues in my eyes and have made the best of your second chance. Let those haters hate

  5. Operating a dogfighting ring is by definition organized crime.

The felon’s past troubles with drugs are well documented.

The Ron Mexico incident is enough to shun him.

It is his behavior that is detestable to civilized society.

  6. I understand the dislike for Vick. What I don’t understand is why guys like Ray Lewis and Leonard Little weren’t the most hated when they played. Head scratcher.

  7. I am very proud of his approach. He owes nothing to the haters who hate and are just as ignominious as the act he committed. And he is right, because there is a time to move and by not forgiving it is their loss and not his.

Keep your head up and realize that I am a fan and I totally love pets and despise those who hurt them but I suspect you understand and you paid your debt and to hell with the dummies.

  8. Not everybody is concerned with being disliked. Who gives two schiz if you’re disliked by people that mean nothing to you?

  9. @foolsgoldstandard… Stop trying to speak for the Philadelphia fanbase like you know anything about it. Most fans don’t dislike Vick here in Philly. Alot of people dont know if he is the future because obviously he is an older qb, and this team is far from a contender. But most people see that he has matured alot from his past, and is a completely different person.

  10. He’s disliked so much because the vast majority of the media e.g. “The ultimate weapon” thinks he’s good. When in reality he sucks. The slowest release in football and the lack of accuracy are never mentioned. How college boy Chip named Vick the starter over anybody is mind boggling.

  11. Actually he’s come out of prison and performs like a professional at what he does. He’s not the best QB but is among the toughest. He held that locker room together this past training camp. He receives the respect of his teammates.

I think most Eagle fans want a better QB. I think the press likes writing about hate with these make believe polls. I read the NFL every day and never ran across such a poll.

  12. Vick, keep strong and never give up..All i do is bill/eave and have never stopped giving up with everything I do in life! I was a 9Th grade drop out 3 years in a row and now my whole life is to help out every situation that attacks me and move on. Go get your Destiny Vick!

  13. As a dog lover, I pray every time he takes the field that someone breaks his neck and he never walks again. I’m not a violent person, never been in a fight in my life, but I hope he dies a slow, painful death. That may sound harsh but if it was my dog that he drowned, electrocuted, smashed against concrete, or anything else that he did to all of those poor dogs, I’d be happy to do the same to him and then some.

  14. I believe what Mike Vick did was horrible. I’m a dog lover like many of you. However he served his time and lost out on hundreds of millions of dollars. He paid his price and has been a positive voice in the comunity since. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance, I’ve had my fair share. None of us are perfect, and none of us will ever be.

  15. “I care nothing about that,” Vick said Tuesday via Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com. “I care nothing about the people who dislike me. I care nothing about the people who still have ill feelings about me.”

Just like you cared nothing for all those dogs you killed. Pathetic.

  16. I don’t dislike Vick for being Vick. He paid the personal price for his failures in his personal life. Life goes on as far as I am concerned.

I still think he is a terrible QB though. To me, he has never been good, but I look at players on their ability and statistics, not on how cool they looked doing something good once in awhile.

  17. This guy comes from fine stock, leave him alone. He and his brother are classier than all you stoopit haters!!!!

He’s disliked for what he did not because he gets well paid for what he does ! Still shows no remorse , typical criminal!

    ————————————-

The dude served his time. Get over it!!

  19. I am so sick of hearing the same thing over and over every time there is a posting about mike Vick. Holy sh** people, let it go. It’s been how many years since he was convicted. He paid his dues both by jail time and loss of money, resulting in debt. I believe the guy deserved what he got. But now he is trying to start a new life and to our knowledge is doing a pretty good job at it. He spends a lot of his down time with kids and doing appearances in the Philly community, making it a better place. I don’t in anyway agree with some of the things he did in his life, but there are many people out there (also in the publics eye -actors, athletes, our own people running our government) that have done things just as bad or worse. It’s time to let it go people. Let the guy be.

  20. I really am curious why yt dislike Vick? Really bc of some dogs. YT loves animals more than they love humans. The man has bank and majority of those idiots that dislike him are just jealous. Vick, people does not like themselves and has to dislike others for their shortcomings. Use my words (Fk em)…

  21. At the end of the day, he has every right to care less what anybody thinks.
And let be honest, with the tax bracket he’s in, everyone’s opinion on not liking him means squat….

  22. On the field, it looks like he plays to the limit of his skills. What would he have to do off the field to quiet the haters? He paid more than enough for the crimes he committed. Let it go.

  23. I mean is the guy supposed to apologize everyday for the rest of his life. He did what he did, it was disgusting, he paid his debt to society. I understand people will not like him but damn move on. You have nfl dudes killing people allegedly.

    I hear that.
However, as long as he is playing in any other than a Pats uniform, I love the guy.

Course, there is the other thing. If he ever goes camping, us wolves have a bone to pick him with.

  25. @7mantel what more remorse do you need….dude jail isn’t enough what is the purpose of the judicial system, his life being ruined his life forever changed let dude be….he owes nobody ish, I said it before and I say it again I wish every move everyone made was publicized I’m sure people view of you would change

  26. I bet Ron Mexico is mad as hell about it but his PR guy says don’t say anything… He is probably so mad he might electrocute a couple pit bulls this weekend….

  27. I don’t think there will ever be a player I hate more than Ray Lewis. All the god b$ is just a show he hides behind. Once you meet god Ray, you’re not going to stick with him too long cuz you know where you’re going cuz of what you did.

  28. Hey kids hate him. But the arrogant jerk doesn’t care, he and his brother will be cell mates sons for some other horrible scheme that they will both lie about and blame other people so they don’t have to take responsibility. Michael you are a waste of space and I hope you get what you deserve. No one likes you just go away. Marginal football player terrible person.

Aaron Hernandez, Rae Carruth and Donte Stallworth are athletes that immediately come to mind that I dislike waaay more than Vick.
    —————————————————

Donte Stallworth actually didn’t do anything. The guy he hit was crossing a highway early in the morning

  30. I don’t know what kind of person can hit a dog over the head with a shovel and laugh about it…Vick will get his in life eventually.

  31. His priorities are in order. He wasn’t negative about anything, he just addressed that he can’t control what certain people think. I will never understand why folks are so hypocritical when it comes to forgiving someone. Vick doesn’t owe anyone anything and he still chose to take the high road. Im glad he shared his feelings and hope he understands that some fans have forgave him and hopes he contrinues on the path he is on.

  32. Ummm…I don’t think he’s disliked because of his W-L record (hint: many Americans frown on dog-killing)

  33. Why do sports bring out the judgmental in us so bad? Mike Vick is just a guy, much like the haters he absorbed most of his concept of right and wrong from the people that he grew up with and has made some bad choices based on that. Maybe some of us have never made bad life decisions? He has shown genuine contrition, let him move on with his life already.

  34. He is still one of the most overrated players to ever play in the NFL. He always shows flashes but is ultimately a little above average. He had that crazy fluke year in Philly and has been average ever since and it’s only a matter of plays before he gets injured again. It seems like the same story with him every season, fantasy football “gurus” pump him up as a demi-god and he just gets hurt or plays ok. Foles had one bad game, I’m not sure why they are so set against using him now.

  35. It should be noted that this poll included people who do not follow the NFL. I don’t like what he did but he sure did pay for it. As for the comment that mentioned other players who did more serious crimes(But to dog lovers there is no more serious crime) the player had to be on an active roster to qualify.

  36. “Just let me do what I do and let me be me.”

The psychopath still doesn’t get it and he never will.

  37. As an Eagles fan I can’t wait to see him out of the organization…but, being the most disliked player? Are we in high school here?

Speak for yourself. Notice the 231 thumbs down and I’d have to say your comment is incorrect sir. Keep on hating buddy. I’m sure it’s useful in your day to day life

Aaron Hernandez, Rae Carruth and Donte Stallworth are athletes that immediately come to mind that I dislike waaay more than Vick.

Really? Donte Stallworth? Because he pled guilty to DUI Manslaughter in 2009? Do your homework before spouting off. Anyone who knows the details of that case can’t possibly hate him for what happened. Hell the family doesn’t hate him…

  40. I don’t like what Vick did in the past but its the past and he has grown as a person since then paid his dues to society and made the best out of his 2nd chance. Yet there are people like Ray Lewis who has NEVER shown any remorse and Arron Hernandez that have murdered people not on that list. Makes no sense to me.

  41. I don’t like Vick for his morals and lack of respect for animals. If he has evolved from his dirty past, one would think that he would make the effort to support saving dogs from crimes such as his. He’s just a self centered jackass. Theres others who have done worse, such as murder, and they are not favored by many. Vick is just a part of the “disgusting group”, rather in sports or not, he’s still what he is.
