Vick on being disliked: “I care nothing about that”

Vick Getty Images

Eagles quarterback Mike Vick recently was named the most disliked player in the NFL.  Vick neither dislikes nor likes the designation.

I care nothing about that,” Vick said Tuesday via Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com.   “I care nothing about the people who dislike me.  I care nothing about the people who still have ill feelings about me.  What matters most to me is the people that I do know care about me and that’s something you can never take away from me.

“So, I don’t feed into all that.  People are entitled to their own opinions, and I respect it.  Just let me do what I do and let me be me.  As long as I’ve got my freedom, my health and my family, nothing else matters.”

Vick has the right attitude.  He understands people aren’t going to like him, and he doesn’t care.  He just keeps doing what he does.

Anyone who does anything in the public eye will always have people who don’t like them.  It goes with the territory, and it’s a small price to pay for being, as Vick is, well compensated to do something he loves to do.

So, basically, we like him for not caring about whether people don’t like him.

I have people that dislike me & I never been in the public eye what gives????

  2. foolsgoldstandard says: Oct 22, 2013 8:42 PM

I’m an Eagles fan and even I can’t stand the guy. I’m counting down the days until the season is over so he’s off my team. But it has nothing to do with his past, it’s the fact that he’s such a bad QB. So I can definitely see him being voted most disliked. Most of the Eagles fanbase can’t stand him.

he couldve just said no comment but no he had to vomit on the english language again. within his answer lies the reason why hes #1. he sucks.

    Liar.

  6. jhein23 says: Oct 22, 2013 8:47 PM

Aaron Hernandez, Rae Carruth and Donte Stallworth are athletes that immediately come to mind that I dislike waaay more than Vick.

  7. thestrategyexpert says: Oct 22, 2013 8:47 PM

If he went 19-0 this year there would still be somebody out there that doesn’t like him. You can’t please everybody, but you can control how many games you win along the way of being disliked.

  8. dallasbaby says: Oct 22, 2013 8:47 PM

What else is he going to say, that he loses sleep at night over his detractors? If his quotes had been attributed to Brady or another media darling, he would be lauded for his maturity and class. However, because he is Mike Vick, I can only imagine the backlash he will get from his comments.

Good job Michael. You have paid your dues in my eyes and have made the best of your second chance. Let those haters hate

  9. 7mantel says: Oct 22, 2013 8:50 PM

He’s disliked for what he did not because he gets well paid for what he does ! Still shows no remorse , typical criminal!

  10. maritime85 says: Oct 22, 2013 8:52 PM

I like vick, id like him alot more if he wasnt on the eagles

  11. bobnelsonjr says: Oct 22, 2013 8:57 PM

Operating a dogfighting ring is by definition organized crime.

The felon’s past troubles with drugs are well documented.

The Ron Mexico incident is enough to shun him.

It is his behavior that is detestable to civilized society.

  12. tigrrrr says: Oct 22, 2013 8:59 PM

I can’t say how much I despise this person. Classless as a person, terrible as a player!

  13. citizenstrange says: Oct 22, 2013 9:01 PM

Just so everybody remembers that he took normal house pet dogs and threw them in to fight against killer pit bulls just for laughs.

  14. pftfanatic says: Oct 22, 2013 9:02 PM

I understand the dislike for Vick. What I don’t understand is why guys like Ray Lewis and Leonard Little weren’t the most hated when they played. Head scratcher.

  15. bennyb82 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:02 PM

I like Vick because in the face of adversity, he has fought back and become a better person.

  16. Foghorn The IKonoclast says: Oct 22, 2013 9:04 PM

I am very proud of his approach. He owes nothing to the haters who hate and are just as ignominious as the act he committed. And he is right, because there is a time to move and by not forgiving it is their loss and not his.

Keep your head up and realize that I am a fan and I totally love pets and despise those who hurt them but I suspect you understand and you paid your debt and to hell with the dummies.

  17. ddaughtry81 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:05 PM

He did his time. No need to show remorse.

  18. ialwayswantedtobeabanker says: Oct 22, 2013 9:07 PM

Not everybody is concerned with being disliked. Who gives two schiz if you’re disliked by people that mean nothing to you?

  19. mythaimyke says: Oct 22, 2013 9:08 PM

It’s a good thing he is not treated like his dogs were. He would be terminated for being a LOSER!!! Bye, Bye Vick!

  20. faithful1985 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:10 PM

Get a life, losers. Adults making lists of people they hate? I thought that was a middle/high school thing.

  21. bleedgreen1988 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:14 PM

@foolsgoldstandard… Stop trying to speak for the Philadelphia fanbase like you know anything about it. Most fans don’t dislike Vick here in Philly. Alot of people dont know if he is the future because obviously he is an older qb, and this team is far from a contender. But most people see that he has matured alot from his past, and is a completely different person.

  22. thedudeabides422 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:14 PM

He’s disliked so much because the vast majority of the media e.g. “The ultimate weapon” thinks he’s good. When in reality he sucks. The slowest release in football and the lack of accuracy are never mentioned. How college boy Chip named Vick the starter over anybody is mind boggling.

  23. kenstabler says: Oct 22, 2013 9:27 PM

Well, I think those dogs of yours wanted to be liked and loved.

  24. thereyougo2 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:27 PM

Actually he’s come out of prison and performs like a professional at what he does. He’s not the best QB but is among the toughest. He held that locker room together this past training camp. He receives the respect of his teammates.

I think most Eagle fans want a better QB. I think the press likes writing about hate with these make believe polls. I read the NFL every day and never ran across such a poll.

  25. themonsterkane says: Oct 22, 2013 9:29 PM

  27. brenenostler says: Oct 22, 2013 9:35 PM

This is the 3rd year in a row now for Vick

  28. 666foles says: Oct 22, 2013 9:35 PM

Based on the comments I think the poll was decided on people other than regular fans

  29. postaldude2012 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:37 PM

Vick, keep strong and never give up..All i do is bill/eave and have never stopped giving up with everything I do in life! I was a 9Th grade drop out 3 years in a row and now my whole life is to help out every situation that attacks me and move on. Go get your Destiny Vick!

  30. kisstherings says: Oct 22, 2013 9:38 PM

People don’t like him because of the dog thing Florio, not because he’s a pro athlete.

  31. mbb1109 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:38 PM

As a dog lover, I pray every time he takes the field that someone breaks his neck and he never walks again. I’m not a violent person, never been in a fight in my life, but I hope he dies a slow, painful death. That may sound harsh but if it was my dog that he drowned, electrocuted, smashed against concrete, or anything else that he did to all of those poor dogs, I’d be happy to do the same to him and then some.

  32. doe22us says: Oct 22, 2013 9:40 PM

Yeah Vick, to you know what to those haters.

  33. sasquash20 says: Oct 22, 2013 9:43 PM

I believe what Mike Vick did was horrible. I’m a dog lover like many of you. However he served his time and lost out on hundreds of millions of dollars. He paid his price and has been a positive voice in the comunity since. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance, I’ve had my fair share. None of us are perfect, and none of us will ever be.

  34. assuredmutualdestruction says: Oct 22, 2013 9:49 PM

“I care nothing about that,” Vick said Tuesday via Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com. “I care nothing about the people who dislike me. I care nothing about the people who still have ill feelings about me.”

Just like you cared nothing for all those dogs you killed. Pathetic.

  35. shlort says: Oct 22, 2013 9:50 PM

I don’t dislike Vick for being Vick. He paid the personal price for his failures in his personal life. Life goes on as far as I am concerned.

I still think he is a terrible QB though. To me, he has never been good, but I look at players on their ability and statistics, not on how cool they looked doing something good once in awhile.

I am so sick of hearing the same thing over and over every time there is a posting about mike Vick. Holy sh** people, let it go. It’s been how many years since he was convicted. He paid his dues both by jail time and loss of money, resulting in debt. I believe the guy deserved what he got. But now he is trying to start a new life and to our knowledge is doing a pretty good job at it. He spends a lot of his down time with kids and doing appearances in the Philly community, making it a better place. I don’t in anyway agree with some of the things he did in his life, but there are many people out there (also in the publics eye -actors, athletes, our own people running our government) that have done things just as bad or worse. It’s time to let it go people. Let the guy be.

  46. tmac4454 says: Oct 22, 2013 10:27 PM

I really am curious why yt dislike Vick? Really bc of some dogs. YT loves animals more than they love humans. The man has bank and majority of those idiots that dislike him are just jealous. Vick, people does not like themselves and has to dislike others for their shortcomings. Use my words (Fk em)…

  47. 4thqtrsaint says: Oct 22, 2013 10:28 PM

  48. janvanflac says: Oct 22, 2013 10:29 PM

His priorities are in order. He wasn’t negative about anything, he just addressed that he can’t control what certain people think. I will never understand why folks are so hypocritical when it comes to forgiving someone. Vick doesn’t owe anyone anything and he still chose to take the high road. Im glad he shared his feelings and hope he understands that some fans have forgave him and hopes he contrinues on the path he is on.

  68. lance19 says: Oct 23, 2013 12:56 AM

  69. oddte says: Oct 23, 2013 12:57 AM

Why do sports bring out the judgmental in us so bad? Mike Vick is just a guy, much like the haters he absorbed most of his concept of right and wrong from the people that he grew up with and has made some bad choices based on that. Maybe some of us have never made bad life decisions? He has shown genuine contrition, let him move on with his life already.

  70. cannonballdookie says: Oct 23, 2013 1:07 AM

He is still one of the most overrated players to ever play in the NFL. He always shows flashes but is ultimately a little above average. He had that crazy fluke year in Philly and has been average ever since and it’s only a matter of plays before he gets injured again. It seems like the same story with him every season, fantasy football “gurus” pump him up as a demi-god and he just gets hurt or plays ok. Foles had one bad game, I’m not sure why they are so set against using him now.

  71. jimimac50jimimac50 says: Oct 23, 2013 1:25 AM

  72. bigbadal21 says: Oct 23, 2013 1:27 AM

It should be noted that this poll included people who do not follow the NFL. I don’t like what he did but he sure did pay for it. As for the comment that mentioned other players who did more serious crimes(But to dog lovers there is no more serious crime) the player had to be on an active roster to qualify.

Really? Donte Stallworth? Because he pled guilty to DUI Manslaughter in 2009? Do your homework before spouting off. Anyone who knows the details of that case can’t possibly hate him for what happened. Hell the family doesn’t hate him…
