Andy Lee named NFC special teams player of week

In a week lacking the big return performances, the special teamer who helped prevent them was honored.

By placing three of his six punts inside the 20, including a 58-yarder, 49ers punter Andy Lee was named NFC special teams player of the week.

Lee leads the NFC in gross punting average (48.3) and is fourth in net (42.4).

That’s huge for the 49ers, who are relying on defense and special teams to keep things together since their offense hasn’t run as smoothly as they’d have hoped.
