Freeman could practice Friday, won’t dress Sunday

AP

Vikings quarterback Josh Freeman continues to struggle from the effects of a concussion no one knew he had until Wednesday.

And while the circumstances have prompted some skepticism (more on that later tonight), the official word remains that Freeman has a concussion.  Coach Leslie Frazier said Thursday that Freeman could return to practice on Friday, but that Freeman won’t dress on Sunday.

It’s not a shock.  With a concussion suffered on Monday night and with Freeman missing practices at a time when he definitely needs to practice, it makes no sense for him to play.

And so it’ll be Christian Ponder with Matt Cassel backing him up on Sunday night against the Packers.

  1. The Viking soap opera is about to take another wild turn. Ponder the Packer Slayer is going to take down the chumps to the East Sunday night. Will look really good doing it.Will Ponder take over again?? Will Freeman come back or suffer coach driven insanity?? Will Frazier have an open qb tryout at Mall of America?? Is Jeff Garcia really in town?? What will happen then( besides lose a great draft order!!!) Stay tuned….

  2. Did anyone else watch the game?

I suffered through it – but remember 1 specific hit where Freeman got up and had that concussed look in his eye. I thought to myself at the time – it would suck for him if he got a concussion in his 1st game with a new team (while also stinking up the joint until he got hurt). Anyone else remember that happening?

  3. Curiously the Vegas line has moved from 10 to 11.5 since is was announced Christine will be QBing. Apparently Vegas doesn’t think Pondexter is the Packer slayer all the Lavender Larry toads do.

  4. Meanwhile, back in the land of relevancy, the storied Green Bay Packers prepare for their rivalry game next weekend against the Chicago Bears – in a game that actually matters.

  5. That is exactly the problem with Ponder though. 1 week he plays well the next he lays an egg. Inconsistency that was maddening. A lot like TJAC.

  6. Didn’t realize that being a “Packer Slayer” means you win one game on a field goal.

Aaron Rodgers is 9-1 against the Vikings.

What name does that get you?

It’s important for the Packers to not be distracted by the freak show in MN, and concentrate on the task at hand – their rivalry game with the Bears next week.

    ——

I think the Packers better worry about how to beat Ponder and Adrian. The last time the Packers played Ponder, he outplayed Aaron in the 4th quarter leading the Vikings to victory with a 3 TD performance.

  8. You gotta love the Viking fans. They spent all spring telling us that all Ponder needed was a few weapons and he would shine. Jennings and the #1 draft choice were the answers.

Ponder has performed poorly out of the gate, but wait, all of a sudden he’s back and a Packer slayer to boot.

I am an optimist at heart but what does anyone see in this Viking team that suggests that all of a sudden they will start winning. Why don’t you just wait till you actually win a game before you come in spouting this nonsense?

Filthy’s next comment on a Bears post will be his first. The guy has his phone set to alert him whenever a Viking story appears on PFT.

  10. The Vikings coaching staff could have any other team’s roster and still be 1-6. After watching Monday night it is obvious that they don’t have a clue. Have a QB with a week of practice throw the ball 53 times and barely use Peterson? Thank God I’m a Packer fan.

I would say it gets him exactly what he deserves:

    1 Super Bowl Ring
    1 Super Bowl MVP
    1 League MVP

The first ones and more to come.

Rodgers is only 5-3 against the Vikings in the regular season since becoming the starter

  13. Vikings fans say SKOL Vikings. packers fans say LOL Vikings.

Ponders success last year was solely due to AP and his 199 yards. AP won’t get near that this week. Vikings will lose.

  14. Freeman could practice Friday = Vikings fans go “oh crap!”

Won’t dress Sunday = Vikings fans give big sigh of relief.

  15. This guy must feel like the Vikings are taking him hunting for the first time, and was asked to wear some antlers and go out ahead to flush out the deer. They are so desperate to be a team like the Packers they could care less if he gets hurt.

  16. Every Sunday, KFAN (the Vikings radio station) has a 30 min program called Packers Preview.

To the Vikings, this is the biggest game of the year. It’s extremely special and nothing comes close. They call it the “Border Battle”

For the Packers though, it isn’t special at all. Every division game that Green Bay plays is a border battle.

Once again, Packer fans rewriting history…

Rodgers has lost to three different Viking QB’s (twice to a “washed up” Brett Favre).

The Vikings and Gus Frerotte on November 9, 2008, defeated the Packers 28 to 27

The Vikings and Brett Favre on October 5, 2009, defeated the Packers 30 to 23

The Vikings and Brett Favre (again) on November 1, 2009, defeated the Packers 38 to 26

And most recently, the Vikings and Christian Ponder on December 30, 2012, defeated the Packers 37 to 34

Frerotte tried to give that first one to Aaron, but Aaron refused to take it…

Frerotte was 15 for 28 for only 151 yards and had 3 passes intercepted by the Packer defense.

But Frerotte out performed Rodgers that day. Frerotte had 2 TD passes compared 0 for Rodgers and Gus actually had more passing yards.

Better check you facts lavender Larry toad boy. Since 2008, his first year as the starter, he’s 7-3 in the regular season.

  19. To me he and his agent, IMHO is running the show. Stink it up in your new gig and feing ‘Oh I have a concussion I think amundo’.

Ya, he doesn’t want the Vikes to discover he sucks just like the Tampa thought he sucked.

  20. At 1-5 the Viking losers seething hatred has them angrier than usual. You would think they would be used to this sort of hapless and tasteless record by now.

Meanwhile, Packer fans are enjoying a glorious fall season of football games that matter. So nice!

  21. It’s really a sad testament of the state of the vikqueens toads when the frantically latch on to these meaningless moral victories and embellish them as if they are significant when the only victory that really matters is the one in the Super Bowl of which Rodgers already has one since becoming the starter and the lavender Larry’s are still in search.

It’s nearly unbearable for you purple twits to live in the shadow of that tiny town 300 miles east of you that has 4 Lombardi’s.

  22. Well at least you have the Packers because there isn’t anything else of any importance in the state of Wisconsin-what a waste of space that state is

  23. 1 week ago, Ponder was worse than the guy who set an NFL record for most overthrown passes in a game. Now all of a sudden he’s going to come in and beat the Packers? How can that be? The only explanation is if Vikings management is completely incompetent with respect to judging (accurately) QB talent. Oh, nevermind… Skol Vikes!

  24. I just want to know, if the vikings miraculously win against the packers,
How upside down would the packers feel going into that bears game, even if the pack wins by 7 points…that would be uncomfortable for everyone there.
I mean, ponder did it once, why not twice?
Basically the same team, minus Smith, plus Jennings.
This game could be a surprise win, not saying they will win but it feels like it could happen. I mean, WHO expected them to win week 17 last year?
Literally no one, and they did.
The vikings have A LONG history of losing games they shouldn’t and winning games they shouldn’t.
    Just sayin’
With Cobb out and James questionable, and Finley Out as well. It looks…odd, to say the least.
Rodgers, has had good games but this year he has had a few oddity bad games.
    No one can stay perfect

  25. And also, EVERY game in the NFC North against another NFC North team is a RIVALRY.
That’s what happens when you constantly play each other, and they trade wins.
    Rivalry-condition of competitiveness-
the condition or fact of competing with somebody or something.

  26. Since i’m fortunate enough to live in the great state of Minnesota, I guess its only fair that the wasteland to the east has one profitable company.. I think its really impressive that this company offers its fans “stock” so they also be “owners” of this singular ray of hope residing in the purgatory known as Wisconsin… Good thing Wisconsin has a place like Minnesota to support 40% of Wisconsin’s able workforce…..

  27. If you watched the game then you witnessed the fact that he was laid out more than linoleum.

He is LUCKY to ONLY have a concussion…. I have no doubt his concussion is real…

  28. Seriously, do none of you have access to the internet? Rodgers’s record vs. the Vikes is 8-4 (last I checked, playoff games count). And, I wouldn’t be bragging too much about those 4 losses fellow Vike fans. The guy has played pretty well against us.

Rodgers has completed 70.7 percent of his passes for 2,840 yards and 24 touchdowns with just four interceptions against the Vikings.

If you’re going to correct someone – it’s best to have YOUR facts straight.

Gus Frerotte beat Rodgers silly in 2008.

Favre toasted Rodgers twice in 2009.

And Ponder knocked Rodgers and the Packers out of a first round bye in 2012.

    1 + 2 + 1 = 4

My grandson could figure out that one before he started kindergarten in Wisconsin. What’s your excuse?

Funny thing – the reason that KFAN has that show is that the vast majority of the local Packer fans consider the Vikings their biggest rival.

I lived in Wisconsin from 1983 – 2005. I was the Membership VP of the Wisconsin Jaycees and traveled the entire state.

I witnessed the Packers rivalry with the Vikings first hand during those 23 years.

Anyone in Wisconsin that claims that the Vikings aren’t a rival – well – they just aren’t a Packer fan…

  31. I bumped my head getting out of the car the other day. Didn’t hurt much. I told my boss I had a boo boo and would be out the next couple of weeks. He said he wouldn’t pay me! Can you imagine that!

  32. As a Packer fan, I feel bad for AP and JAllen. Heeps of respect for those guys. Aside from them, this club is in turmoil. Anyways- who has two thumbs and 1,000 ways to cooks crow? Greg Jennings sister of course- Howz the other side of the fence feel ding dong?

This is amazing that no one can get this right. Since 2008, Rodgers is 6-4 against the Vikings in the regular season, 7-4 counting playoffs. I know math is hard, but this is ridiculous.

Whoa…someone from Green Bay just called the vikings “tasteless”?

    ***************************************

    Perhaps you’re new here.

  35. If they were going to fake an injury wouldn’t they pick something else other than a concussion? Every NFL player has a baseline test for their “brain” and if concussed there test will be much different, and isn’t it NFL protocol for all players to be continually tested if a concussion is involved?

Another thing to take into consideration with concussions is if a player’s test is different than there baseline test, they aren’t able to practice or even do any physical activity or exercising. Doesn’t Freeman need ALL the practice time he can get at this point? Fake a left shoulder injury so he can at least still practice and throw but can’t play due to “concern over making it worse”.
Like or dislike and I could be wrong on NFL concussion protocol but….just my two cents.
