Bears take a look at a few linebackers

The Bears won’t have linebacker Lance Briggs in the lineup for the next six weeks, which means it is time for them to start looking for someone to fill out the depth chart at the position during his absence.

Several linebackers worked out for the Bears on Friday in hopes of landing that roster spot. Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports that Larry Grant, Brian Rolle and Julian Stanford were showing off their skills for the team and that there may have been other hopefuls involved in the workout as well. Grant, who served a four-game suspension to start the year, has the most experience of the group and Rolle was a sixth-round pick of the Eagles in 2011.

The Bears have an open roster spot, although, per Biggs, they may wait to officially add anyone to the roster until Monday because of salary cap concerns.

Chicago also took a look at a few wide receivers, including 2012 Cowboys sixth-rounder Danny Coale, on Friday. They dropped Ricardo Lockette from their practice squad this week, which may signal where they’d be looking to stash anyone they sign. Former Eagles quarterback Mike Kafka was also in, although it appears he was simply there to throw to the receivers rather than vie for a spot in the temporarily Jay Cutler-less quarterback room.
