Redskins linebacker Brian Orakpo gave the Redskins an early lead last Sunday with an interception return for a touchdown, but his day wasn’t entirely positive.

Orakpo was penalized for roughing Bears quarterback Josh McCown in the third quarter of the game, a foul that has also brought a fine from the NFL. The league confirmed to PFT that Orakpo has been fined $15,750 for the play, which saw him hit McCown high and then drive him to the ground.

McCown’s pass to Alshon Jeffery fell incomplete, although the Bears were able to use the yardage from the penalty to help them move into position for a field goal. Robbie Gould missed from 34 yards, however, and the Redskins would go on to win 45-41 in a shootout at FedEx Field.

Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington reports that Orakpo plans to appeal the fine, although video of the play and the NFL’s history on these matters don’t do much to help his chances of getting the penalty thrown out.
