During the third quarter of last Sunday’s 19-16 loss to the Steelers, Ravens defensive end Elvis Dumervil was flagged for three penalties on one drive.

He was penalized for jumping offside and a late hit on Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on the same play. Dumervil then picked up a facemask penalty a few snaps later that occurred while Dumervil and defensive tackle Haloti Ngata were sacking Roethlisberger.

PFT has confirmed with the league that Dumervil was fined $7,875 for the facemask penalty.

“I got to do a better job of being aware of the strike zone,” Dumervil said after the game, via Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun. “I think I played a little too aggressive. I have to do a better job and not cost the team.”

Dumervil got an object lesson in how costly those penalties can be when Shaun Suisham kicked a field goal at the end of the drive. Those points that wound up looming large at the end of the game when Suisham hit another field goal and left the Ravens with a 3-4 record heading into their bye week.
