Fumbling gets Ronnie Hillman deactivated

Ronnie Hillman AP

For every NFL game, seven of the 53 players on the roster end up not dressing.

For the Broncos on Sunday, running back Ronnie Hillman will be one of the seven.

According to Mike Klis of the Denver Post, Hillman’s habit of fumbling will get him deactivated against Washington.  C.J. Anderson will get the nod instead.

Hillman had a critical fumble late in Sunday night’s loss to the Colts.  It was only his second fumble of the season.

There’s a chance it could be his last.  For reasons unrelated to his ability to avoid fumbling.

Think most Denver fans agree that one little fumble-prone guy is quite enough! At least Holliday finds the endzone. I wanted Hillman to succeed, but right now, he just isn’t worth the risk. Looking forward to seeing what Anderson can do!

    Why wasn’t knowshon in there?

I’m glad their sending a message to Hillman and giving Anderson a shot, but wait… what??

What are these “reasons unrelated to his ability to avoid fumbling”??

    Care to elaborate on this?

Stop holding the goods. What are the other reasons.

  6. ilovefootball25 says: Oct 25, 2013 6:15 PM

I think I’m with everyone else wondering what are the reasons unrelated to his ability to avoid fumbling. What’s up?

  7. bobulated says: Oct 25, 2013 6:16 PM

It will be interesting to see if Fox has Hillman holding a ball while he watches the game.

    FINALLY! THANK YOU!

  9. shayeezy says: Oct 25, 2013 6:38 PM

some of you aren’t very bright. the last paragraph means that he won’t fumble anymore because the broncos deactivated him and don’t trust him anymore, not because he learned how to stop fumbling.

  10. tampacoltsfan says: Oct 25, 2013 6:39 PM

I’m pretty sure he means if Hillman is getting deactivated, then he has fallen out of favor with the team and might not get another shot to fumble again.

I can’t remember, was Hillman paper, scissors or rock?

  12. johninthewest says: Oct 25, 2013 6:57 PM

CJ Anderson will be Denver’s next diamond in the rough. He will revive Denver’s running game!

  13. ninerswilldominatelikebefore says: Oct 25, 2013 7:00 PM

the broncos will end up with a bye and then be one and done…by the colts.

100% correct. CJ ran so hungry in preseason before getting hurt. He has the build, the hunger, and the angry running style we need.

Broncos need a back to get 3 yards come playoff time. CJ will get 4.

  15. gloryfromheaven says: Oct 25, 2013 7:11 PM

C.J. Anderson reminds me of MJD, when he was good. Small, but tough as nails… Would absolutely not surprise me if he went on to their main back heading into the playoffs…

  16. justintuckrule says: Oct 25, 2013 7:16 PM

The “other reasons” is that he’s trade bait. We’ll take him….for no other reason than we’re beyond scraping the bottom of the barrel.

  17. td30 says: Oct 25, 2013 7:16 PM

love this organization. keep people accountable and play the guys who deserve it

Hillman’s fumble cost them the game. A game they should’ve lost and couldve stolen

  18. William Mosher says: Oct 25, 2013 7:21 PM

Hillman was in there because the broncos go fast and he was in the previous play. PFM probably saw a D that asked for run and called it. He shouldn’t have to think about who the back is. The question of the day is “can Anderson pass block?” Because just like hillman got stuck in there on a run play deep, Anderson will probably get stuck in there on a 3rd and long.

  19. blackbeard43 says: Oct 25, 2013 7:30 PM

That last sentence is a bit confusing, but I have to say, that is one high res picture you guys posted there.

Shayezy-some of you aren’t very bright. the last paragraph means that he won’t fumble anymore because the broncos deactivated him and don’t trust him anymore, not because he learned how to stop fumbling.

    ——————

Gotta love the Internet, people calling people dumb while being incorrect themselves.

What people are referring to is the last sentence that implies he is in the doghouse for something unrelated to his fumbling. If that’s not the case then it’s the writers fault, not the readers.

  21. Milehighmagic58 says: Oct 25, 2013 8:05 PM

Finally! I’ve seen this dude in person and my grandma could make him fumble. He’s like 145lbs, wet, in pads. He makes Trindon Holliday look like a power lifter. Trade him to San Diego, and let’s never bring up this conversation again! Now CJ Anderson on the other hand…When I heard he was demoted to the practice squad, after running like he was playing for food, I was dumbfounded. Watch this kid give Denver a spark that they so desperately need right now. I know we’re 6-1, but let’s be real, it’s now or never for us Broncos Fans! Power running won us 2 Super Bowls, not John Elway. That’s coming from someone who prayed to John Elway as a kid (God forgive me), and still thinks he’s the G.O.A.T!

    P.S. Get well soon Orlando!

  22. atwatercrushesokoye says: Oct 25, 2013 8:42 PM

Milehighmagic58: Anderson was never demoted to the practice roster, he’s been on Denver’s 53 all along, he just hasn’t been healthy enough to play.

A lot of people are pretty excited about him based on early training camp practices and his running in garbage time during the first preseason game (I guess all of a preseason game is garbage time) I’m looking forward to finally seeing him play and seeing if the excitement is warranted.

  23. denverhighrize says: Oct 25, 2013 9:00 PM

Sure two fumbles is few if you carry 20 a game. I’d have to check but I doubt Hillman has even carried 80 times this season. No pass block, fumble prone and mildly electric. Bench sounds right. CJ deserves the shot.

Revive what? Moreno’s 413 yards on 95 attempts, with an average of 4.3 YPC, with 8TD’s… Really? I’d say Moreno is doing pretty damn good considering he only averages 13.6 attempts a game.

atwatercrushesokoye: when I said I was “dumbfounded” I just meant dumb :) . You could just tell by how hard he hit the hole. It was refreshing.

  29. datmilehighswagistoodamnhigh says: Oct 25, 2013 10:56 PM

Bout damn time! All the buzz on Hillman is he can take it to the house at any time but the lie detector test determined that that was a lie. Dude runs like a scared lil girl, hasn’t had a run over 20 all season. fumbles, cant block, he can catch but isn’t elusive in open space. Him and Montee Ball suck. CJ deserves a shot to spell Knowshon. Speaking of which Knowshon should get 20 carries a game till either he gets injured or Franklin gets back cuz Peyton is a sitting duck without that O-Line healthy. IM still confused as to why they didn’t kick Beadles out to RT and move Kuper over to LG, instead of kickin Vasquez out to RT where hes never played before. They also might wanna find a better solution at LT than Clark, he got manhandled

  30. tabais says: Oct 25, 2013 11:08 PM

Can someone explain the logic behind having 7 people deactivated per game? They still get payed and service time credit so why not let them be able to play?

    Never made sense to me

  31. ajec80 says: Oct 25, 2013 11:17 PM

This benching must not cost Ronnie any money–rest assured if it did, Mike “Count Other Peoples Money” Florio would have broken it down on a game-check level.

  32. johninthewest says: Oct 25, 2013 11:58 PM

    ====================================

I’m not discounting what Moreno has done or will do in the future. Let’s face it, Moreno is a northsouth power runner. He’s not as versatile as Anderson when it comes to making sharp cuts and finding holes. Hopefully Anderson will get some time in this weekend.

We trade Hillman to San Diego for 2 beaver pelts, 1 bag of arrows, and 1 loaf of bread.

Yea blame him.. Peyton fumbled, snd trew a pick, he does these kinds of things in big games get use to it Broncos fanz.. Member last year? Haha Peyton is a better version of Tony Romo in the postseason, a mistake waiting to happen… It was all Hillman fault, because Peyton never make mistakes haha

  35. joetoronto says: Oct 26, 2013 5:09 AM

    The GOAT???

I don’t remember Joe Montana playing for the Donkeys.

    SMH.

  36. bartlettruss says: Oct 26, 2013 9:40 AM

The last sentence (more like a sentence fragment) seems unduly provocative. I’ve looked around the internet and haven’t found any dirt on the guy, so I don’t understand the innuendo.

If he’s gone for reasons other than fumbling it should be because he can’t protect the passer effectively.

  37. billytodd2013blbaad says: Oct 26, 2013 10:51 AM

Hate to say it but Bronco fans have to realize what they have with Peyton, great numbers and wins in the regular season but come january Peyton is another person who can’t win the BIG games. Honestly would love to have him as my starter for the reg season and then bench him for Eli come January..lol

  40. scriven725 says: Oct 27, 2013 1:34 AM

Only reason why it’s just happening is because Anderson got hurt. He has higher upside than any other back on the roster.

  42. therealzeitgeist says: Oct 27, 2013 5:23 PM

With left side of o-line leaky right now, Broncos need running game to keep defenses honest enough for Manning to take them apart. Otherwise, Manning gets smacked around a lot, and that’s the key to make him normal.

I can see why they’re shaking their running corps up.
