Santonio Holmes sheds no real light on his return

Getting accurate injury information about Santonio Holmes, even from his own mouth, can be difficult sometimes.

So while he’s sent reporters down the wrong trail before, the Jets wide receiver indicated Thursday he could need another two weeks prior to the Jets by week to be fully healed from the hamstring injury that cost him the past three games.

“At this point, I think the bye week is coming at a great time,” Holmes said, via Brian Costello of the New York Post. “It will give me five, maybe six weeks to get healthy and I should be ready to roll.”

Of course, being Holmes, he then bristled when that meant he wasn’t going to play this week against the Bengals.

“I didn’t say that,” Holmes said. “Don’t put words in my mouth.”

He ran one route Thursday but otherwise didn’t practice, saying he wanted to make sure he was well before he tried to come back

“That’s one thing I don’t want, any setbacks at this point,” Holmes said. “I already missed a full season last year [with a foot fracture] and I want to be back on the team to help these guys as much as possible. I think I would be a downside to the team if I put myself back on that list of being injured for the remainder of the season.”

Now we stay tuned for the inactive list on Sunday morning, to see which of his statements he was being forthright with.

As a Jets fan, it is very refreshing to see this team by in large keep their mouths shut this year…..richardson with a little rookie mistake yapping, but he backed it up……….other than that, not a whole lot

and wouldn’t ya know, they are 4-3……….maybe worrying about football, actually makes you better

This guy has proven to be a major disappointment to Jet fans. It kind of makes you think his Super Bowl performance that day was a fluke.

This guy is obviously milking it for his upcoming free agency when he is cut after the season. I won’t be surprised if he’s on the patriots next season.

No rush Mr. Holmes. You’re getting paid and we know that’s all that matters.
