Mike Pouncey receives subpoena for grand jury testimony in Hernandez gun case

pounceys

When Dolphins center Mike Pouncey went to Massachusetts on Sunday, he left with a loss.  And with an invitation to return.

Involuntarily.

According to Pete Thamel and Greg Bedard of SI.com, Mike Pouncey was served with a grand jury subpoena after Sunday’s game.  Per the report, police are focusing on Hernandez’s “potential involvement in interstate gun trafficking, which is being investigated by several agencies in multiple states — at least Massachusetts, New York and Florida.”

It’s unclear whether the subpoena comes from an existing Massachusetts grand jury, or a federal grand jury.  The reference to interstate gun trafficking suggests that it’s possibly a federal grand jury.

That said, the subpoena was served by the Massachusetts State Police, which would suggest that it comes from one of the existing state-level grand juries.

It’s unknown whether Pouncey is simply a witness or also a target.

“Organizationally, we do not have a comment,” Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene told SI.com.  “And Mike Pouncey does not have a comment.”

Per the report, “signs that Hernandez was involved with a large-scale, multi-state gun running operation began to emerge” shortly after the investigation began regarding the June 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd.

The possibility of additional weapons charges (Hernandez already has been indicted on several weapons-related offenses) provides a potentially valuable fallback for prosecutors who may have a hard time proving beyond a reasonable doubt that Hernandez killed Lloyd — or that he killed Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu in July 2012.

As to the July 2012 murders, Hernandez is believed to be the target of a grand jury investigation.  While he has been indicted for the murder of Lloyd, he has not been indicted for the murders of Furtado and Abreu.

Mike Pouncey and his twin brother, Maurkice, made waves in July when they wore “Free Hernandez” hats at their birthday party.  Maurkice Pouncey later apologized; Mike didn’t.

It’s unknown whether Maurkice Pouncey, who plays for the Steelers, is also a potential witness in any of the potential cases against Hernandez.

Massachusetts police putting on a show or what. They had to know what hotel they could have found Pouncey at.

I have a feeling they’ll be giving Mike Tomlin a gift to hand down to his center next Sunday – since the other Pouncey is on IR and probably won’t make the Foxboro trip

    It’s just sickening.

The new england patriots should be ashamed with drafting this murderer.

The low character patriots organization put honest, law abiding citizens at risk by hiring this criminal.

    Shame.

@jakec4, road teams coming to Foxboro typically stay in Providence. After the game was the only time the MA state police could serve him.

Says the fan of the Bengals, a team that only a couple years ago was an NFL laughingstock for having so many “low character” players on its team. BTW, Pacman Jones is being charged with assault. How you liking that??

  26. seachicken64 says: Oct 27, 2013 9:00 PM

So if I am someone with a business valued at well over $500 million and we are paying some young man north of $1 million per year to play for our team and represent us – and this is how he pays us back? No thanks, cut the severance check and send the hood-rat home. I would make both these idiots sit a year out without pay. Fools, idiots and moral degenerates. Just complete pond scum.

They can’t all be choir boys (I’m not, certainly), but there has to be a baseline of decency and respect. Those hats go way beyond. Those guys are basically laughing off somebody losing their life – whether Hernandez was responsible and did it or not. It just isn’t a situation to make light of.

  34. doggeatdogg says: Oct 27, 2013 9:40 PM

These two fools pull out the hats for support when no one in their right mind were sticking his head out for an accused murderer. Who does that. After the hat incidence I immediately thought the defense will be calling these two as character witnesses for AH. I was close.

It appears the prosecution is going info mining from the Pouncies. Maybe AH kept the guns he used at the UF shootings and later used the same at the 2012 shootings. Them guns are expensive and stupid people who never heard of ballistics science just reuse. I think the feds are making sure AH don’t walk if the state screws up the murder trial.

  35. strokinmyego says: Oct 27, 2013 9:44 PM

    “Patriot way all day everyday.”

Ah Patriots trolls. Long since past is the time where they actually aggravated anybody. Now all they are is amusement. I’d actually attempt to formulate an argument but your limited intelligence would make such an endeavor utterly pointless. Carry on troll.

  36. damnsureis says: Oct 27, 2013 9:45 PM

I like how the article is about a member of the Dolphins getting a subpoena and everyone jumps on the Patriots. I also like how the guy saying the Patriots should have known about his criminal history roots for the team that drafted the guy who was standing next to him when he allegedly shot someone in college.

  37. helix828 says: Oct 27, 2013 9:53 PM

Kind of sounds like maybe Pouncy was using Florida’s relaxed gun laws to help his boy move some heat up north. This just gets more and more ridiculous.

  38. annes22 says: Oct 27, 2013 9:55 PM

That could have been served after the game, but what a tacky way to do it in the locker room.
What was the matter with the hotel??? It was bad enough with the refs’ phoney calls, but then that.
I guess they can’t afford to go to Florida, it costs too much money to make that trip and find him there.
Hernandez seems to have a finger in a lot of pies.

  39. mistrezzrachael says: Oct 27, 2013 10:07 PM

Well, lets see if Pouncey does indeed get indicted..for some connection [ ie supplying guns?]

And lets see if the Dolphins release him immediately the way the Patriots did Hernandez.

Wearing those hats..maybe the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen..something you typically see from jet players/fans.

  40. scalfor3 says: Oct 27, 2013 10:11 PM

They don’t go to the hotel after the game, you numbskulls. They go straight to the bus, which takes them straight to the plane home.

Also, Bengals fans are the last ones who should be pointing fingers about character issues.

since two or three of you are still complaining about doing it at the locker room instead of the hotel, I will say again what has already been stated.

Visiting teams stay in Providence (RHODE ISLAND) because its easier to get to Foxboro from there as opposed to Boston. And TF Green airport is much easier to deal with than Logan. Mass state police arent going to be serving people in RI.

Also, who cares where they do it? Its their job to serve the guy, they dont need to take into account his personal life or job performance. They KNEW he was there, so they did it. Lucky they didnt do it during warm ups…

If I m not mistaken Federal law trumps state law especially in “trafficking” matters. If they really want to serve him, they can work with state agencies to get that done. Serving him within state lines would be easier (x the red tape) but if they really want to get at him the state he resides in would serve him with a Federal subpoena…
