The Patriots’ offense underwhelmed as Miami surged to a 17-3 halftime lead at New England on Sunday.
Patriots quarterback Tom Brady completed 6-of-8 first-half passes, but for just 25 yards. Also, the Dolphins capitalized on his first-quarter interception, with Brandon Gibson catching a four-yard TD pass. Later, the Dolphins would add a five-yard TD reception from running back Daniel Thomas to extend their lead to 14-0 lead in the second quarter.
According to the CBS telecast of the game, Brady’s 25 first-half passing yards were his fewest in the first two quarters of a game since 2003.
Overall, Miami outgained New England 175-59 in the first half.
The teams would trade field goals to end the first-half scoring. As the Patriots knelt to end the second quarter, boos could be heard at Gillette Stadium.
It was that kind of first half in New England.
Making matters worse, the Patriots went three-and-out to begin the third quarter, with Brady sacked to end the drive.
