Shanahan: Robert Griffin III could have returned to game

From the early indications, it appears Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III’s left knee injury is not serious.

According to Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan in Washington D.C., head coach Mike Shanahan said Griffin was given the OK to return to the game by team medical personnel but was held out on account of Washington trailing by 17 points late in the fourth quarter.

Griffin suffered the injury when hit on a fourth-quarter pass that ended up as an interception.

Also, via NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Dr. James Andrews told the network that Griffin was fine.

Griffin completed 15-of-30 passes for 132 yards with one TD and two interceptions in Washington’s 45-21 loss to Denver.

Why didn’t he? Broncos D had the REDSKINS number today. Good win for Denver.

  4. polegojim says: Oct 27, 2013 8:59 PM

    Why would he?

I don’t know how it’s possible, but he’s starting to look LOST at the NFL level. How does that happen? A few glimpses of great play… then THUD.

Errant passes, missed receivers, VERY poor decisions. Just L-O-S-T.

  5. wryly1 says: Oct 27, 2013 8:59 PM

Shanahan already ruined Griffin last year.

  6. Gordon says: Oct 27, 2013 9:01 PM

The game was over at that point. Smart move to keep him out. The O-line was struggling to protect him.

That was a pretty sick 2nd half show the Broncos put on.

To all those who said the Colts should have drafted this injury-prone primmadonna before Luck, go find another sport to watch. I heard Cricket is enticing.

Shanny also thought he was “good to go” in the last game last year.

He’s somewhere around WebMD.com for ability to diagnose a player’s injury.

Says the guy who left RG3 out there on the field with an obviously compromised knee. A decision which ultimately led to a second ACL reconstruction. Yeah, if I was RG3, I think I’d be asking the doctor from here on out whether or not I should be going back in the game, NOT Shanahan.

  16. jakec4 says: Oct 27, 2013 9:12 PM

Griffin is a dud and it has nothing to do with an ACL. Heck, even Vince Young is a former rookie of the year.

  17. kev86 says: Oct 27, 2013 9:15 PM

He didn’t want to get hit anymore. What has this kid ever won in this league anyway? Not much. Enough already.

Don’t know why shan is still coaching before rg3 he was on verge of getting canned. All he did was benefited from elway and Terrell Davis careers

Talk about almost repeating history. I can’t even say last year as it was January. Shanahan and Robert’s “I do what I want” mentality is going to kill him.

    Should of talked to McNabb!!!

RG3 had no offensive line today. The pass protection was honestly pathetic. A quarterback’s success has a lot to do with his offensive line. Griffin could have played much better, but let’s not act like he is completely to blame for this loss.

  24. 1rockyracoon says: Oct 27, 2013 10:09 PM

Do you think Griffin wishes Washington didn’t draft him. They are doing their best to run the guy into the ground. He wasn’t even running and he was taking hit after hit.

  25. harrisonhits2 says: Oct 27, 2013 10:20 PM

The entire nfl had the offseason to study Griffin and the offense built around him. Now that defensive coordinators have figured out how to make it hard on him, RG3 is not adapting well.

He also seems to have believed all the hype about how he is a superman and the fastest healer in human history. Since he was not magically at 100% as of day 1 of the season and has continued to struggle, he seems unable to grasp the reality that hype rarely translates to reality.

Luck didn’t have the O-line last year and even this year it’s pretty mediocre and yet he still manages to put up numbers. Bob just plain sucks!!!

I did say that RG could have played better, which means he didn’t have a good game regardless. I never said anything about Luck, who is obviously better than Griffin. I’m just saying that when your receivers are pathetic and don’t get open like Washington’s, and your offensive line doesn’t block anyone, then it can affect your performance. Just look at Brady this year. Washington’s receivers and offensive line are even worse that New England’s.

  32. trollaikman8 says: Oct 28, 2013 3:50 AM

It would be nice to hear from RGIII Sr right about now.

  33. Rockets GM says: Oct 28, 2013 7:51 AM

Skip Bay-LESS is still defiant. RG3 with his 2-5 record and 9 td’s to 8 ints is STILL better than Andrew Luck and his 5-2 record (with wins over Den, SF,Sea) and his 10 tds to 3 ints. His 11-5 record last year with a horrific O-line was truly “Luck” and RG3’s lesser 10-6 record.

This isn’t an attack on RG3, but rather that schmo, Skip Bay-LESS and his blind devotion. It should be noted that he picks New England to win the Superbowl every year and HAS BEEN WRONG FOR A DECADE!!!!!

  34. pastorbobs says: Oct 28, 2013 8:41 AM

RG3 had lots of time to throw until later in the game. He just didn’t play well.

A running QB that now doesn’t run as much, he needs to read defenses, get a better pocket presence, and improve down the field vision.

So while we claims that pocket QB’s are a thing of the past, he better learn some of their abilities if he wants to last in the league.

It can happen, but not overnight.

  35. fukdaeagles says: Oct 28, 2013 11:57 AM

Illogical voice is in mourning. He’s at home watching last year’s games.

  36. cursedvikings1998 says: Oct 28, 2013 12:39 PM

I can tell you exactly what separates RGIII from the likes of Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Peyton Manning.

When those four elite quarterbacks get in trouble, they generally don’t force it and they are willing to dump the ball off to a running back.

RGIII refuses to do that because he thinks he’s Joe Montana out there. He’s just awful.

  37. propertyofthebroncos says: Oct 28, 2013 2:05 PM

Logicalvoicesays will be away for awhile as he trys to recover from the pounding the Redskins got and deserved from Denver. That being said, it’s good he is being more cautious with RGIII to avoid serious injury so maybe this guy can have a full career.
