Golden Tate scores touchdown, taunts Rams in process

Golden Tate seems to find a way to get himself noticed during Monday night games.

Last year, it was Tate’s last second touchdown on a Hail Mary that lifted the Seattle Seahawks to a victory over the Green Bay Packers that drew attention. Against the St. Louis Rams Monday night, Tate delivered the biggest play of an offensively challenged game for both teams.

With Seattle holding a 7-6 lead, Tate hauled in an 80-yard touchdown pass over cornerback Janoris Jenkins to give the Seahawks a 14-6 lead.

Tate leaped over Jenkins to haul in the pass close to 50 yards downfield. Tate then immediately began to wave at safety Rodney McLeod for the final 30 yards of his run to the end zone. Tate was called for taunting on the play and got a talking to on the sidelines by head coach Pete Carroll. The penalty was enforced on the ensuing kickoff.

Through three quarters the Rams and Seahawks have combined for just 328 yards of total offense. Despite the 80-yard touchdown to Tate, Seattle has just 82 passing yards in the game. Wilson has thrown for 123 yards but Seattle has lost over 40 yards due to six sacks from the Rams’ defense.

  1. He’s the anti-Barry. That’s never a good thing label to be attached to. Taunting to give the other team yardage is pretty darn stupid. So you Golden Tate are a stupid man. I’m not impressed with how well you brag. Try again.

  2. I don’t quite understand the outcry against this. Sure, it’s poor sportsmanship, and it definitely isn’t something I would teach my kid to do, but really?

He got his flag, let it go. He didn’t Meriweather anyone. He was just a jerk… Am I misreading the situation?

  3. Well, no one has ever accused Tate of having class. At least Carroll had the stones to get on him about it. Many coaches wouldn’t and some would give him an ‘attaboy’ (yes, I am looking your way Schwartz).

  4. Dumb play, mostly because he almost ran out of bounds and slowed down so much he had to start running again. If you have to taunt at least score the TD first.

  5. Seahawks are playing like a bunch of punks tonight…they’re up to what 4 personal foul penalties or more tonight?

  6. Didn’t catch the ball against green bay………Total tool when he scored against the rams……. Seattle needs home field to win in the playoffs………Suddenly looking vulnerable……

  7. Why even waste the ink writing about the biggest tool in the league ?

And why did I waste the time reading about it?

    Serenity now!

  8. Seahawks have the best record in the NFC, against a sub-par schedule…..

Has there ever been more potent troll bait set out? Grab your popcorn, get comfortable in your recliner and just wait for 9ers and packers fans…

    Just wait…

  9. 15 yards added to the kick off is nothing. If the NFL wants to remove taunting on plays like this – take away the score and penalize 15 yards from the point of the taunt. Coaches (and teammates) won’t put up with that…

  10. Props to Carroll on visibly catching him on the way off the field, then having a more personal talk about it on the bench.

Tate looked far from responsive in the brief shot of it. But it looked like a reasonable attempt to correct his player’s behavior. He looks like he’d be a cool coach.

  11. Golden Fake has to be the most overrated WR in the game. If he would stop running his mouth he might be to hide how fake he really is. And for all the sea rats hyped over this year good luck! Panthers, lambs and Houston have all shown how overrated and over hyped your team is..call back when you get to the SB…until then shut up and stay out the rain!

  12. I understand trash talking is part of the game but there’s absolutely no need for that kind of crap. There should be stiffer penalties for players acting like jerks. The only one that looked stupid was you, Tate… not the guy you taunted.

  13. They had 139 yards passing. The Sacks were losses and if you want to deduct from the total yards and call it “net”, that is fine. But the yards passing are the yards passing………

Defenses are both tough and the hats off to the Rams for playing well. Hats off to the Hawks for finding a way to win and specifically the Defense for the final stand.

    Go Hawks.

  14. The Rams will finish 3-13. That will out their 8-yr winning percentage at 22%. Easily the worst ever. Yet with no chance to win, the Overrated QB done for the season and a World Series game being played 6 blocks away they still had 35k show up. LA on their best would never match that.

  15. We understand why he did it. Im sure he was being verbally trashed talked up to that point by Janoris or that DB in particular. The length of sign language was to long. Oh how we watch in awe. Nice D at the end. An ugly W is a W….

  16. Really surprised at how awful both these teams looked. Well, really surprised that one of these teams looked awful.

  17. Looked like he did a “talk, talk, talk” hand after the wave. I’m assuming there was done talk-talk-talkin on the part of the rams’ corners.

    Not an excuse. Just context.

Too bad it was flagged. That was hilarious taunting.

  18. he did the same thing to that security guard from top pot donuts, but the security guard caught him ( i can’t beleive that security guard isn’t playing in the nfl)

  19. Tate is just a dirt-ball! Wouldn’t want him on my team!!!! or any of the rest of the PRIMA DONNA’S on the TEAM! It’s a T-E-A-M game, not look at me!!!!! They will never win a Super Bowl with all those egos and that QB, NEVER! Get ready girls, after everyone watches tapes from the Rams game, you are in trouble!!!!

  20. Wasn’t Jenkins the guy who googled Steve Smith’s family for trash talking material? Hard to sympathize with a dude like that. I think that’d piss me off way more than a wave.

  21. He’s always been a ”look at me” receiver.Very arrogant and major under-achiever.Hopefully DB’S will remember that and you know maybe lay him out next time.

  22. From what I’ve read in the police report, Tate also tauntingly waved back at the donut shop as he was fleeing the scene of the Great Seattle Bakery Caper of 2010.

  23. He is very lucky. That flag was thrown before he scored (about 20 yard line). I guess the taunting rule is written as if it occurs after the play. That is the first time I have ever seen an offense commit a penalty during a play and kept the TD. Could have been a spot foul or at worst 15 yards from previous spot. Probably should have been because there is no need for that in pro ball.

  24. That was stupid. If the NFL wants to get rid of taunting they need to assess the penalty from the original line of scrimmage and replay the down.

  25. Taint is not nearly as good as he thinks he is. I’m sick of his antics. Where’s Meriweather when you need him?

  26. He might be a talented player, but he’s a classless dude. You would never see Megatron pull such a self-centered stunt.

  27. “Through three quarters the Rams and Seahawks have combined for just 328 yards of total offense.”
    _______________

Holy cow, Megatron had 329 yards receiving last week…

  28. First of all, Tate did not score a touchdown last year against the Packers, he was awarded one by reject lingerie football refs. And second of all, Carroll the clown probably just congratulated Tate for his actions and told him to flip the bird instead of waving next time.

  29. Just the same old POS!!

At times when players like Tate continue to display their immaturity you’d love smack them. Professionals they are NOT.

Would be nice to see enforcement of the rule nullify the play as it took place during the play and not post-play.

  30. Carroll enables this type of behavior. His squad is quickly becoming one that gets high penalty yardage against as well as personal fouls and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. At some point this stuff will cost them when it counts. Undisciplined.

  31. Tate rulez the WRs in the NFC. Just because he’s great doesn’t mean that he’s a lesser person because he taunted. He’s every reason the Seahawks should open up the passing game more. I bet the loser Packers wish they had him. Bank on it!

Schwartz actually benched W. Young for taunting Tom Brady… but I guess you are one of those people that only see what the media wants you too.

  33. Golden Tate is a really fun reciever to watch. He has amazing body control and balance, great hands, and excellent YAC.

The taunting was immature, but coach was on it right away and I liked Tates comments afterwards so I’m willing to chalk it up to emotions and move on (are you?)

The Hawks were pretty lucky to pull this one out. I think Russell was coached to play very conservatively this game. No fumbles (unlike last week) and no picks and not much in the way of scrambling.

  34. Packer fans still bitter hahaha.

Enough talking about “class” on here. Naturally, those with nothing more than a bunch of stiff bones and no verve will think that tired drivel, “shut up, play football, act like you’ve been there before, just hand the ball to the official”, but the main people who always complain about these things are those with an inherent bias against certain teams (Packers fans, for instance) or players, or the types who like to dish it out, but can’t take it.

Look at the final score of that game……

    You STILL mad bro?

  36. Tate should take a few pointers from Wilson- how frustrated must he have been with the turnstile O-line? Never showed it, never blamed anyone (that I could see), just kept getting back up to get knocked down again. Made me a fan. As for the rest of the Seahawks- no class whatsoever.
