Griffin’s knee is sore, but Shanahan declares him “fine”

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan didn’t get very specific, but he did say quarterback Robert Griffin III was “fine.”

That’s a huge relief, after he got up limping after being driven to the ground by Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton. Doctors checked his left knee (the one that wasn’t rebuilt this offseason), and apparently said nothing to worry the coach.

“In talking to [team doctor] Chris [Annunziata] this morning, . . . the knee is fine,” Shanahan said, via Tarik El-Bashir of CSNWashington.com. “A little bit sore right now. That’s about it. . . .

“According to doctors, it’s a little bit sore right now. He’s going to have a little bit more rehab this week, which is typical of a quarterback or any other player who has something hurt. But they feel he’s fine and he’ll be ready to go on Wednesday.”

Griffin downplayed the problem after the game as well.

“I think it just scared me,” Griffin said Sunday. “After I got up and the doc checked me, I was fine and ready to go back in to the game.”

The score was out of hand at that point, so the Redskins elected to let Kirk Cousins finish up, but Griffin should be ready for this week’s game against the Chargers.

Keeping him well continues to be their challenge.
