Report: Sebastian Vollmer having surgery to repair broken leg

Sebastian Vollmer AP

The Patriots offense found itself in time to rally back from a 17-3 hole and beat the Dolphins 27-17 on Sunday.

It looks like at least their next few encore performances will take place without right tackle Sebastian Vollmer in the lineup. Vollmer left Sunday’s game on a cart with a right leg injury and Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports that Vollmer will have surgery on the leg.

There’s no word on whether or not Vollmer will miss the rest of the season, but he should be sidelined for several weeks before returning to the fold. The Patriots have already used their injured reserve/return spot on running back Shane Vereen, so Vollmer would have to remain on the 53-man roster to have any hope of playing again this year.

Vollmer’s injury will put some of the incentives in the contract he signed before the season at risk. He is set to make $750,000 if he plays 90 percent of the team’s offensive snaps, something that seems impossible now.

Marcus Cannon will likely take over for Vollmer in the starting lineup.

The NFL only allows one “injured reserve/return spot” on the roster? Given all the injuries teams suffer over the course of a season, that sounds really dumb.

They will win the East. Then they will lose in their first playoff game. Admit it Pat Fan– you know this to be true.

When you hear a big tough guy like Vollmer scream like he did when he got hurt, it’s absolutely chilling. Get well soon, Seabass.

Was really hard to hear him scream on the field. You don’t wish that to anyone.
Hope he has a speedy recovery

Ah, the Patriots bashers. Tough Sunday against the Bengals, boys (minor detail: Vollmer wasn’t even on the team at the time of Spygate).

Wow another big loss. And another broken leg. I can’t remember there ever being so many broken bones in 1 season. I lost count of how many broken legs there have been around the league this year.

    Yeah, it’s taken its toll.

They’ve been to the playoffs every year since except 08 when they only went 11-5.

See the Giants this year? What’s that karma for?

It really is sad how consumed with hating the Patriots some people have become. Go ahead, do it all you want… I view it as respect for a team you view as superior to your own. The Saints got busted for something a lot more serious than Spygate, but you don’t hear anybody ranting about them all the time. Why you ask? Because they haven’t won consistently for over a decade. Keep the hate coming guys, because Brady and Belichick aren’t going anywhere any time soon.

i just wanted to comment this somewhere: for anyone that remembers amendolas “grand gesture” at the beginning of the season, so far he donated $1900 from his 19 receptions from his $30,000,000 deal. ya, 7 zeros.

Jealous fans just tired of getting beat down by the Patriots year after year…always winning the division….Brady & BB are far from done….3-4 more years for Brady & BB if he finds his next QB will probably just keep on coaching or become their GM & Josh will fill his spot…..
Pats got a lot of youth on the team & I’m just wicked happy to be a Pats fan…sucks about seabass but another guy will just step in & DO HIS JOB so the Pats keep winning….6-2 with the SQEELERS coming to town….7-2 going into the bye….works for me!!!

Maybe the Bucs can trade them Donald Penn for an 8th round draft pick. Anything for the great Bill Belichick!

As a cowboys fan, you’re obviously an expert in watching teams fail to get past the first playoff game.

Me thinks they doth protest too much and betray their envy and below average critical thinking skills.

They are hated because they’re good every year and they lock up a playoff spot. That’s one less every year bc they are a lock.

  19. patssox says: Oct 28, 2013 4:00 PM

I expect the saddest part of all of this is that these Pats haters are probably Jets fans. So no matter how much they self-medicate with attacks on the Pats, their illness remains.

Brady lovers and the media must be pleased by this since it gives them another excuse if/when Brady keeps stinking up the place. After all it isn’t like any other QB deals with offensive line injuries (Denver has had OL injuries all season) just like no other QB deals with injuries at the receiver position (Rodgers, Matt Ryan) or playing with a rookie or two (basically every QB) so Tommy is in a unique spot.

Apparently in the eyes of the media and Brady/Pats fans Teflon Tom needs to have the entire all-pro offense surrounding him and only then can the guy they say can make anyone look good finally do well…unless of course he struggles which then means the all-pro players are to blame since it is just impossible Tom can actually not be perfect like they think he is.

I bet most Brady fans totally miss the irony there with how they say he is so good yet in the next breath imply he needs to be surrounded by great players and have no adversity to do well. Meanwhile guys like Aaron Rodgers keep chugging along at a top level when faced with adversity…

    “Patriots are insecure”

Way to start with an absurdly false premise and then back it up with bs.

So now the coach and quarterback that the haters have called arrogant lack confidence? That’s logical.

The Patriots are having a bad year and they are 6 and 2, lead their division by two games, and are tied for the third best record in their conference.

Wouldn’t it be easier if you admit you hate the Patriots because they win?
