Von Miller shows up nearly two hours late for court date

Broncos linebacker Von Miller continues to have a problem with showing up in court on time.

According to Jordan Steffen of the Denver Post, Miller was nearly two hours lateregarding pending traffic offenses.  Eventually, Miller arrived at the Arapahoe County Court and pleaded guilty.

Miller’s lawyer, Abraham Hutt, accepted blame for the snafu.  Hutt explained that he was under the impression that prosecutors had agreed to allow Miller to skip the hearing.

Magistrate Christina Apostoli wasn’t impressed.

“The court finds it rather ridiculous he doesn’t appear this morning and he’s mere blocks away. That’s what’s made a spectacle of these issues,” Apostoli said.

For pleading guilty to the pending traffic charges, Miller was ordered to perform 24 hours of community service and to complete a driving class within 90 days.

Though Miller escaped this specific predicament without any problems, it’s an important time for him to be dotting i’s and crossing t’s.  With Miller subject to up to 10 unannounced drug tests per month, he needs to be ready at a moment’s notice to show up on time and to produce clean urine, preferably from his own body.

When I get traffic tickets, I just pay the fine and don’t show up either. I don’t see why he would need to be there, especially when his lawyer shows up on his behalf.

What a talent this guy is. Really one of the best defensive players to arrive in a while. But it sure seems that soon we will be reading “former NFL player Von Miller…”

The judge made a bigger azz out of himself by lecturing Von Miller and his attorney but then turning around and doing nothing.

Why is it that only Broncos players have “snafus” with their professional advisers.

First Dumervil with the “Fax machine snafu” and now this guy??

  11. broncos97 says: Oct 28, 2013 3:21 PM

I said this in a post earlier depending on how he plays the rest of the year and how he conducts himself it would not suprise me if the team wouldn’t try to trade him in the offseason and this is not a good start

Guess you wanted the judge to give him a life sentence for not paying a speeding ticket and missing a court date!!!

  14. mogogo1 says: Oct 28, 2013 3:26 PM

Why would the prosecution need to approve whether Miller had to appear or not? Wouldn’t that be part of the standard procedures regarding whatever type of case it was? And so his lawyer shows up and discovers Miller really does have to be there…it takes two hours for him to make it cross town to the courthouse? You know the Broncos would have probably flown him there via helicopter just to avoid the bad press.

Hate Von Miller all you want, bottom lione is he’s going to SAC your QB hurt him, and most likely make him fumble. No one cares about a stupid court appearance for traffic tickets. Von looks stronger and faster than he did last year. Teams coming up in the schedule are in a world of hurt if they get down to this team. If you don’t beliveve me, ask RGIII. This pass rush made him say UNCLE!!!

Yes, because a guy who gets a speeding ticket and is told by his lawyer he doesn’t need to come to court is just about the same thing as a player who: (a) gets charged with three felony weapons charges; (b) has someone get shot as his house and is accused of instigating the shooting; (c) got stabbed during a fight; (d) has been charged with two DUIs; and (e) is in drug rehab. I now see how you came up with the brilliant analogy — kudos.

  25. hanktheking says: Oct 28, 2013 4:30 PM

I wonder if Patriottony could explain as to when Von got his first DUI, as he seems to think he’s getting “another”. Worry about your players murdering more than 1 person you clown, and then worry about them losing to that wreck of a team the Jets.

Von is going to be just fine. If my lawyer told me I could skip court I would as well. Meanwhile Von didn’t skip out on blowing up RG3 yesterday, and let’s be honest, that’s all that matters.

  26. davikes says: Oct 28, 2013 4:34 PM

I would have thought Elway would be dragging him in by the ear just to make sure he got there on time.

  27. sullijo1 says: Oct 28, 2013 4:46 PM

Miller – so, do I have to be in court for the hearing?

    Lawyer – No

    Miller – are you sure???

    Lawyer – No

Miller – ARE YOU POSITIVE I DON’T NEED TO BE THERE??

    Lawyer – No

    Miller – Ok

  28. thejuddstir says: Oct 28, 2013 4:53 PM

VonMiller will be suspended for a year before long. Another one in the long line of idiots who just don’t get it. The speeding tickets mean little, showing up a judge for 2 hrs tells you he has no regard or respect for authority and rules. Showing up the judge should’ve got him a much stronger sentence than the speeding tickets. The judge was an enabler.

  29. annes22 says: Oct 28, 2013 5:01 PM

He was lucky that’s all he got. You cannot behave like that and expect to get away with it.
Next time he’s in big trouble, and the way he behaves it may not be long.
Who does he actually think he is???

The most ridiculous part of this is that he literally could have parked at the Bronco’s training facility and WALKED to the courthouse where the traffic violations were being heard. They are that close together.
Von definitely needs to get his act together. He is wearing through all the threads his career is dangling by.

  32. ufanforreal says: Oct 28, 2013 5:07 PM

    How many tickets were there?
It depends on the amount of tickets, how long apart they were and if he disregarded them to have to go to court.
If he had a few and didn’t take care of them in a timely manner that lawyer said he didn’t have to be there BS is just that.

Are people really smashing this guy for showing up late for traffic court? This isn’t a massive trial with a jury. You talk to the young overworked DA for 5 minutes before hand and then the judge looks at the notes and tells you what your fine is. It the weekend flag football version of court.

  36. slick50ks says: Oct 28, 2013 6:09 PM
