Aldon Smith turns himself in on felony weapons charges

The good news for 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is that he apparently has exited rehab, five weeks after entering a treatment program following a DUI arrest.

The bad news is that he surrendered to authorities on Tuesday night regarding felony weapons charges arising from the ill-fated June 2012 part at Smith’s house, which has now resulted in the unwanted trifecta of being stabbed, sued, and prosecuted.

According to NBC Bay Area, Smith turned himself in on Tuesday in connection with the latest legal entanglement for one of the best young defensive players in the NFL.  He quickly was released on $75,000 bond.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court on November 12 in connection with the weapons charges, and then on November 19 in connection with the DUI charges.  (The report also mentions pending drug charges; it’s our understanding that Smith ultimately was not charged with marijuana possession.)

Smith previously had agreed to turn himself in after exiting rehab.  He remains on indefinite leave from the 49ers, who do not play this weekend.

The only structure this guy had in his life was football. Uutside of that he’s been a total mess. If he loses that, it’ll be a longshot for him to survive.

Those weapons would be legal in most red states. The whole firing weapons in residential area is bad. Though we dont have all of the facts….maybe self defense? He’s young….needs to grow up and get his life together before he thinks about football.

As a Lions fan I hope the kid gets his life in order. I hate that these kids can’t seem to find a good thing to do in their life when they are living a dream. Hopefully he can get clean, get out of trouble the right way, and use this bad experience to help others that might fall in the same trap as he did. He is now going to be in the position to reach some that nobody else will be able too. Lets hope he does the right thing with his experience. We need roll models for our kids that can repair a broken life.

Good job facing the music Aldon. Get it all out there and be done with it. In some ways your life is just beginning. It gets better

Get it all out there and be done with it. It’s not too late to turn it around. Your life is just beginning. Good luck

I believe people can turn themselves around. Smith is a tool for even almost blowing such an amazing opportunity. Illegal guns, getting stabbed, drinking/drugging and driving when you’re a millionaire superstar athlete that hasn’t event entered his prime.

49er fans are thinking he is going to get light charges. I think looking at 4 felonies that’s no slap on a wrist.

He’s obviously ready to come back.
