Bengals lose Taylor Mays for the year with shoulder injury

The Bengals were so thin at linebacker earlier this year, they had to press safety Taylor Mays into duty in the front seven.

Now, they won’t be able to play him anywhere, as he was placed on season-ending injured reserve.

Mays suffered a dislocated shoulder in Sunday’s win over the Jets, the team announced.

He was a solid contributor for the Bengals on both defense and special teams, even if the former second-rounder never quite lived up to his draft status.

So glad Seattle drafted Earl Thomas instead of this guy. And then we got Kam in the fifth.

People should have known when Pete Carroll passed him over to take Earl Thomas.

Time for Shawn Williams to start earning his check.

Good thing Pete Carroll got Earl Thomas instead. Guess he made the right choice.

I don’t know the answer but there are absolutely too many season ending injuries. And the players are all underpaid for the risks that they take.

Yes, as if 1 out of 32 teams passing a guy over is an indication that he’s going to take a hard hit and get injured.

What are you going to say if Thomas gets injured and knocked out for the year?

No one can predict this type of thing.

I feel so bad for this kid. He had really came in this year and had found his place on this team as a key special teams player, covering the slot and being the coverage linebacker.

Hopefully we (the Bengals) can resign him for a couple more years after this season. He may never be the great safety he was envisioned to be coming out, but he was a key part of the defense.

A key part of the defense?! He was so vital we resigned Chris Crocker who has officially retired more times than Brett Favre to play safety instead of starting Mays. I don’t like seeing anyone get injured but I don’t see this as a huge loss.

im not sure why people like taylor mays, he’s not good, s. williams time to get in there and make some plays and show people why the bengals drafted you.

Hope Taylor mays gets well soon. Fight on Taylor.

Espn has Taylor mays having 19 total tackles, equivalent to Demarcus ware
And Elvis dumerville. I know Taylor isn’t Troy polamalu Brian Cushing or clay Matthews but he does help the defense. Fight on Taylor. Screw the sc haters
