Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie wins AFC defensive honors

Redskins Broncos Football AP

When a quarterback’s playing as well as Peyton Manning has this year, other contributors can get overlooked.

But Broncos cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie got some deserved recognition, winning AFC defensive player of the week honors.

Rodgers-Cromartie broke up three passes, and returned an interception 75 yards for a touchdown in last week’s comeback win over the Redskins.

His 94 passes defensed since entering the league in 2008 are the most during that span, showing a nose for the ball.

His five touchdowns on interception returns also show he knows what to do with it.

Any time you can give it to a player who picks off the backup QB in a blowout, you have to do it.

    Eagles clearly didn’t need him…

Antonio Cromartie has a hip injury and can’t run at full speed, both Jet fans and Bengal fans know last week was an aberration.

I can remember an NFL ‘expert’ say that he was one of the worst offseason signings, he was clearly wrong….

DRC is the only person I’ve ever seen catch Chris Johnson from behind–and he did it in Johnson’s prime.

It was one of those classic monster runs for CJ, but unfortunately for Cromartie (and the resulting publicity he would’ve received), touchdowns were not automatically reviewed back then. I had it DVR’ed and when CJ’s knee hit turf inside the one, the ball wasn’t quite across the goal line.

I think Kirk Cousins is a better pocket passer than RG3… he was actually creating a good drive up until that pick. The award is well deserved.

One of the better defensive pickups of the offseason by anybody.

Is all thanks to Von Miller he is finally creating a pass rush, and that in turn is making QB’s rush their throws and in turn creating turnovers.

As a Broncos fan, watching him every week, he was a great pick up. Too bad it was only a one-year contract.

He’s good, unless he has to face Dez Bryant. He DESTROYS DRC almost every time they face off.

Wow…if only he gave that kind of effort for the Eagles last year. Can’t respect a guy who dogs it.
