Leslie Frazier is going to keep us guessing this week

Leslie Frazier AP

Since announcing which of his bad quarterbacks he planned to start hasn’t worked so well, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier is going to keep it to himself this week.

Frazier told reporters today that he had an idea who was going to start against the Cowboys this week, but he didn’t plan to reveal his decision until later in the week.

At this point, anyone other than Josh Freeman would be a surprise. He was inactive for Sunday’s loss to the Packers after suffering a concussion, though he was cleared to play. That gave him another week to digest what the Vikings want to do, after he was thrown in so soon after being acquired.

Christian Ponder was back in the lineup last week, with Matt Cassel backing up.

Tough choice. Do you go with the guy who throws it 25 feet over the receivers head, or continue to bet your career on the quarterback who’s scared to throw it?

    Now Dallas better be worried……..

“Frazier told reporters today that he had an idea who was going to start against the Cowboys this week” but it was a Bad idea.

As a Vikings fan, I say we should start whoever gives is the best chance to finish 1-15.

In related news from the AFC Mike Tomlin is keeping everyone guessing if the Steelers will ever compete again!

Uh oh throwing a curve ball, those tricky Vikings….

  7. skooter519 says: Oct 30, 2013 1:25 PM

It’s not a big deal who starts this week, Dallas isn’t going to be in to good a mood after last weeks game with Detroit.

  8. tlow97 says: Oct 30, 2013 1:27 PM

The Vikings are showing their hand too much… that’s obviously why they’re 1-6.

What kind of pick do the Cowboys want? A rainbow jump ball or a bullet to the numbers??

  9. trollsetter says: Oct 30, 2013 1:29 PM

Who cares? Start a donkey, it’ll produce the same results.

  10. Rick Spielman is a Magician says: Oct 30, 2013 1:31 PM

This is brilliant. With Freeman overthrowing and Ponder underthrowing, Dallas won’t know whether to coach their defensive backs to play 10 yards behind the receiver or 10 yards in front of the receiver.

  11. justinsdailypay says: Oct 30, 2013 1:32 PM

The Vikings should be talking to Huff (Ravens just released) and the other guy…anyone with a dang heartbeat that can play some D’ I would fire everyone in that defensive secondary….Cook has to go, Robinson HAS to go, Jefferson has to go, Sanford has to go, Raymond has to go…did I miss anyone?…keep the rookie just in case he gets better…

Agreed. Shameless tanking for the rest of the season sounds good to me. Then Mariota, Bridgewater, or Manziel can lead us to glory. Maybe it’s best not to let Speilman make the choice between the three though, he’s been extremely good with first rounders, but he failed so hard with Ponder that idk if I trust him to try again on a qb. Another miss would end AD’s chances of winning the big one.

  13. Go-Hawks! says: Oct 30, 2013 1:44 PM

Admitting that he has no idea who will start is a sure sign that the rudder has long since vanished from that ship.

I have Sunday off can I be the QB

  15. immafubared says: Oct 30, 2013 1:49 PM

Dallas must be shaking in their boots: prepare to defend a guy who can’t pass or prepare to defend for a guy who throws the ball a mile even when the receiver is only ten yards away.

  16. immafubared says: Oct 30, 2013 1:51 PM

If Dallas loses this game, then they no longer will be the beloved America’s team. Ya right

  17. ruvelligwebuike says: Oct 30, 2013 1:54 PM

It’s tough on a defense to prepare. They don’t know if they’re preparing for countless overthrows or countless underthrows.

  18. fwippel says: Oct 30, 2013 1:54 PM

Maybe it’s time to go back to Joe “just the facts, ma’am” Webb. I’d rather see him out there than Freeman.

  19. lpd1964 says: Oct 30, 2013 1:54 PM

Like it matters, I’ve been a fan since the Tarkenton days-at this point let Singletary play QB, who gives a crap!!

  20. halbert53 says: Oct 30, 2013 1:56 PM

He should decide by playing spin the bottle. Not only is that easier than throwing darts (which would miss), but judicious choice of beverage bottle would provide him with a much needed dose of liquid courage.

  21. surfinbird1 says: Oct 30, 2013 2:00 PM

Better not be Freeman. He just won’t show up for the flight to Dallas.

  22. Skol Vikings Skol says: Oct 30, 2013 2:04 PM

Good golly. It’s like they’re “playing” NFL team over there.

Also, can they please address what happened with the Allen trade? Sounds like Spielman was demanding a 2nd round pick. Which is outrageous for a 31 yr old DE with a huge contract. I would like some accountability, please. Allen is going to walk after this year and we will have nothing in return. U.N.A.C.C.E.P.T.A.B.L.E.

  23. athwartships says: Oct 30, 2013 2:04 PM

Am I the only confused that they don’t start Cassel?

  24. jmorand47 says: Oct 30, 2013 2:05 PM

I have a better idea, why don’t we throw a different defensive coordinator at them? You know, one that actually has plans to stop a 3rd and 3.

  25. vikesrunrunpass says: Oct 30, 2013 2:06 PM

To bad we can’t keep defenses guessing

  26. Carl Gerbschmidt says: Oct 30, 2013 2:07 PM

How’s it going, Vike Fans? By the way, how did that Jared Allen trade turn out? What’d you get? A conditional 2nd? Or a 3rd?

  27. 700iq says: Oct 30, 2013 2:08 PM

Lets be honest….. does it really matter?

  28. Rick Spielman is a Magician says: Oct 30, 2013 2:08 PM

Freeman reminds me of Happy Gilmore when he first took up golf. He hit his drive a mile. Then he lined up his putt and he hit it a mile.

  29. Kayne East says: Oct 30, 2013 2:11 PM

I certainly havent watched all of the Vikings games, I am not a fan, but I dont get the problem with Ponder? I watched the last 2 Vikings games. With Freeman at QB, the Vikings made the Giants look like the best defense the NFL has ever seen. Then this past week Ponder kept the Vikings in the game against the Packers. If the Vikings defense could have gotten 2 stops (which really is a sad request, but since they made zero stops all game…) the Vikings had a chance.

As far as I am concerned, if you are looking to win games, Ponder is your guy. If you are looking to tank the rest of the season in order to hopefully get Manziel, Freeman is your guy

  30. goofer11 says: Oct 30, 2013 2:18 PM

If he starts Ponder again he might as well put his house up for sale. He won’t be around long.

  31. Rick Spielman is a Magician says: Oct 30, 2013 2:20 PM

@Kayne East (should that say Kanye?) –

Ponder is probably better than Freeman, but he is terrible. He can’t find an open receiver. If he does find one, he’s often too scared to throw it to him. He has no chance of being the kind of quarterback it takes to win in the NFL. Therefore, we’ll start Freeman so we can secure that nice, juicy, top-3 pick.

Are you forgetting that they have Adrian Peterson on the Vikings? He’s a warrior and will win a handful by himself this season still. His son was brutally beaten to death and I’m sure AP will want to honor his memory by playing his heart out. If that’s not a reason to root for your team to win and root for Peterson, then you’re not a true fan. Maybe you should watch ice skating or something.

  33. rexranius says: Oct 30, 2013 2:25 PM

When asked who he was going to start against the Cowboys this week, Frazier responded, “We’re playing the Cowboys this week?”

  34. matthewdn says: Oct 30, 2013 2:33 PM

Frazier looks like a deer in the headlights.

  35. theqmaster says: Oct 30, 2013 2:35 PM

Cassell only play well in London. It’s between the overthrowing and under throwing QB.

  36. johnnybearcat says: Oct 30, 2013 2:42 PM

I think they should run the wildcat with AP…they will probably have a better chance

  37. Kayne East says: Oct 30, 2013 2:59 PM

Its actually “Kayne” on purpose, because Kanye is one of the world’s biggest d-bags so it is kind of a mess up his name on purpose because he is a d-bag joke…

Bridge water sounds a lot better than manziel

  40. antalicus says: Oct 30, 2013 3:22 PM

Ponder’s problem is that he only looks for one receiver so the solution is to have 2 receivers run routes near each other.

There was a play that Greg Jennings was completely open but he was on the other side of the field so Ponder tried to run.

  41. biggins94 says: Oct 30, 2013 3:23 PM

    BRIDGEWATER!!!!!!!

  42. toddc612 says: Oct 30, 2013 3:31 PM

One thing that we don’t have to guess at is how inept Frazier and his clown crew of coordinators are..

  43. golforepar says: Oct 30, 2013 3:38 PM

Just put Petersen in the wildcat and have an extra OL in the game! After a few games people might forget how bad the QBs are.

  44. purplehaze28 says: Oct 30, 2013 3:43 PM

    FREEMAN OR BUST (…or both…)

  45. 4gone says: Oct 30, 2013 3:54 PM

You have Adrian Peterson, Greg Jennings and had 3 first round picks this year. Now you are in line for a top 3 to 5 pick next year. No QB, no Allen for next year, poor coaching. Must be some sad purple tears.

  46. biggins94 says: Oct 30, 2013 4:08 PM

Like it has been since the walker trade. Bad effing office management. We won’t be satisfied until Peterson wants out. I wanted to watch a game this year but who wants to travel 8 hrs to watch us get blown out and embarrassed. I like to spend money wisely. Not spend it to piss myself off. Better do something quick this offseason or we will lose our fan base Then the franchise goes.

  47. shaggytoodle says: Oct 30, 2013 4:14 PM

A Qb getting drafted with high with lots potential by Minny. won’t mean anything.

The last time they developed a QB was when they told Culpepper to heave it up to Randy Moss.

  48. biggins94 says: Oct 30, 2013 4:19 PM

Evidently we can’t pick up any other teams trash qbs so we have to try to developer our own. We are in uncharted territory right now
