Ravens release Michael Huff, Marcus Spears

Huff

The Ravens have emerged from their bye week by saying farewell to a couple of veteran players who joined the defending champs in the offseason.

The team has announced that safety Michael Huff and defensive end Marcus Spears have been released.

Huff, a former top-10 pick of the Raiders, appeared in seven games with one start. Spears, who arrived in Baltimore after spending eight years with the Cowboys, appeared in five games with one start.

Because they were cut after the trade deadline, they’ll pass through waivers. Which means that, if they are claimed, the Ravens will be off the hook for termination pay.

The move also suggests that the Ravens possibly were trying to trade either or both players before Tuesday’s deadline.

The Ravens filled the two roster spots by elevating a pair of safeties from the practice squad: Omar Brown and Brynden Trawick.
