Ryan Succop wins AFC special teams award

Life is such for the 8-0 Chiefs that you don’t have to be perfect to win.

Chiefs kicker Ryan Succop was named AFC special teams player of the week, after making three-of-four field goals to help his team to a 23-17 win over the Browns to stay undefeated.

It wasn’t the most dramatic day, but he did hit a 40-yarder with 22 seconds left to pad the lead to six and force the Browns into something they haven’t appeared capable of.

He’s been solid all year, making 15-of-18 field goals and all his extra points. It might not look flashy, but like his team, he’s getting it done.

  1. Guess you missed it

“JONES HONORED: Off his franchise-record four touchdown catches last Sunday against the Jets, Marvin Jones became the first Bengals wide receiver to win AFC Offensive Player of the Week since Chad Johnson nearly six years ago for his efforts on Nov. 25, 2007 against the Titans. Johnson was the last Bengal to catch three TDs that day until Jones came along.”

  2. Did Jones get those TDs on special teams? That’s why this is the AFC special teams player of the week. At least read the title if you’re not going to read the article

  3. Is this a joke?
A kicker missing a FG and he is player of the week.
Oh I forgot he’s a Chief they have a PK in the HOF but the best kicker of all time Ray Guy is not … Yes it is a joke.

  4. “A kicker missing a FG and he is player of the week.”
Must’ve been a pretty quiet week on special teams in the AFC….

“Oh I forgot he’s a Chief they have a PK in the HOF but the best kicker of all time Ray Guy is not … Yes it is a joke.”

Well, Guy was a punter and Stenerud was a PK, so it’s an apples to oranges comparison. Having said that, Guy positively, absolutely, 100% belongs in the HOF. And that’s coming from a Chiefs fan….

  5. Is four out of five field goals in a not-that-close game really all that special?

Rashad Jennings of the Raiders had a blocked punt that led to a touchdown and recovered an onside kick in a game that the Raiders won by three points. And I think he had a couple of special teams tackles too.

That seems more worthy to me.

  6. Raider fans sure have their panties in a wad this evening. Whats even funnier is the fact that the Raiders could finish 8-8 this season, still miss the playoffs and still finish 4th in the AFC West.
