Stephen Gostkowski is AFC’s top special teamer this month

The Patriots haven’t known from one week to the next who their receivers was going to be, or which defensive star was going to get hurt.

But the one non-Tom Brady constant in the whole thing has been kicker Stephen Gostkowski, who was just named AFC special teams player of the month.

He hit all nine October field goals he tried, and going back a month, has made 15 consecutive field goals including two from beyond 50 yards.

He’s second behind Denver’s Matt Prater in scoring, but I think we can safety say Prater has a little more help around him, and is getting a lot of easy extra points.

    Kickers are people too!

Can someone explain how he got it over Nick Folk? Gostkowski was 9 for 9 which is great but had zero game winners. Nick Folk was 11 for 11 including TWO GW FGs to end games(including beating the Pats).

This doesn’t make any sense at all.

When the Patriots drafted Gostkowski in the 4th round, the draft gurus cracked wise.. He’s been consistently good while kicking in hostile conditions both at home, and more often than not on the road.

@ ctg4: Well Folk should be 10 for 11 with one game winner, but you see the officials gave him a second opportunity.

No, the pats gave him a 2nd opportunity by breaking the rules. The officials enforced it.

Kevin Huber had an outstanding month. Without him the Bengals aren’t 6-2.

I believe he also is tied for the league lead in kickoff touchbacks. that surely goes into the equation

The Jets did the same exact thing but weren’t called for it. The NFL even acknowledged it and they have video have it, so the officials were enforcing the calls they wanted to enforce.

Two kickers over the last 18 years. Darn good drafting if you ask me.

    They also drafted Phil Dawson

@patriotenvy: actually he was an undrafted free agent who signed with Raiders and then Patriots.
