Texans trio getting consideration, not jobs

Wood

Last week, the Texans dumped three rookies, citing a violation of team rules. According to ESPN.com, linebacker Sam Montgomery, linebacker Willie Jefferson, and running back Cierre Wood (pictured) were caught smoking marijuana.

The players have denied it.

All three passed through waivers unclaimed, but all three aren’t being completely ignored. PFT has confirmed that Jefferson and Wood had tryouts on Tuesday with the Jaguars. The day before, Montgomery had a visit with the Raiders.

Montgomery reportedly passed a drug test in the wake of the incident that got him cut by the Texans. According to Mike Garafolo of FOXSports.com, Wood has notified all teams that he passed a drug test that he took in coordination with the NFLPA on the day he was cut. FOX Sports also reports that Montgomery has worked out for the Bengals, who offered the third-round pick from the 2013 draft a spot on the practice squad.
