Aaron Maybin makes two tackles in CFL debut

Earlier this week, we mentioned that Aaron Maybin had signed on with the Canadian Football League’s Toronto Argonauts.

On Friday night, Maybin saw his first CFL action, recording a pair of tackles in Toronto’s 23-20 loss to visiting Montreal in the regular-season finale for both playoff-bound clubs. The Argonauts and Alouettes had each secured their playoff positions, so the end result didn’t affect the CFL’s postseason picture.

“Obviously you never want to start off with a loss in your debut game,” Maybin said afterward, according to The Canadian Press. “But one thing I can say is I’m happy to be back on a football field, man.”

The 25-year-old Maybin was with the Bengals this summer but was released in August. The No. 11 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, Maybin notched a combined 36 tackles, six sacks and five forced fumbles in regular-season play in stints with the Bills and Jets.

The Argonauts don’t play for another 16 days, giving the club more time to evaluate Maybin and giving Maybin more time to adjust to the CFL game. Toronto will host the East Division final on Nov. 17.

    Aaron Maybin…

Made millions for absolutely nothing being accomplished in his short and relatively uneventful career. In other words… BUST!

Props to the guy to keep trying. Keep improving in the CFL and maybe he can redeem his extremely underwhelming performance in the NFL

He should stick to painting. He’s better at it and he’ll keep his knees.

He didn’t look too great to start, but he seemed to adjust alright to the speed of the game as his playing time went on. And while the Argos rested pretty much all their starters, the Alouettes did not, so at least it was the starters against which he put up a decent showing.

This kids issues are in his head. He has the talent. He had a stretch of about 4 games with the jets where he looked great. The he just disappeared. Can’t make a career on 4 games though.
