Cameron Wake is back, and just at the right time

Dolphins defensive end Cameron Wake might not be back to full speed.

But for a night, he looked like the Wake of old.

Wake’s sack for a walk-off safety win in overtime was a huge moment for his recovery, and the Dolphins’ in a 22-20 victory.

It was almost like a movie moment,” Wake said, via Brian Biggane of the Palm Beach Post. “We needed to make a play, . . . I beat the center with a pass-rush move.”

While snapping the team’s four-game losing streak was huge, making a play of his own was significant. Since a Week Three knee injury, he’s either been absent or practically so, with limited snaps and few plays since.

His 3.0 sacks against the Bengals were his first since logging 2.5 in the opener.

“He’s been fighting hard to get back and we could see it this week,” cornerback Brent Grimes said.

If he can continue to progress, the 4-4 Dolphins suddenly have more of a chance.

  1. I can’t help but pull for the Dolphins a little bit. They just seem like a hard luck team, and how many of the last fifteen seasons has featured one of their division opponents playing in the AFC championship game or Super Bowl?

They’re like that one guy in Glengary, Glen Ross.

  2. What a win, and what a great play to win the game. Dolphins aren’t there yet, but wins against quality opponents like the Bengals and Colts give this fan reason for hope.

  3. Wake had a great night. That final play at the end of overtime was right out of Hollywood! Wake is a silent leader on the team. He leads with his actions. This was a defensive win. Grim had the pick six and the punting unit kept them deep. The offense went three & out so many times that the defense was gassed in the third quarter. To their credit they reached down inside their guts and found the motivation to play through their exhaustion. We have since learned that gutless wonders, like little Johnny Martin, stayed home and went trick or treating! What a contrast between Wake and Martin. GO DOLPHINS!!

  4. CAMERON WAKE is a great story. His journey and the path he took to get to the NFL is as amazing as his numbers last night.

Big time respect for this kid.
