The Breeders’ Cup begins Friday at Santa Anita Park, and a contender in one of today’s most interesting races is partially owned by Marshall Faulk.
Faulk, the Hall of Fame running back and NFL Network analyst, owns a small share in Brujo de Olleros, an entrant in the $1 million Dirt Mile.
Bred in Brazil and originally raced in Uruguay, Brujo de Olleros was purchased and brought to the United States last year. He has won just 1-of-5 starts in the U.S., but his recent form has been quite good.
According to Team Valor International, one of the primary owners of the horse, Faulk purchased a small percentage of Brujo de Olleros after the horse’s latest start, a second-place finish in the Kelso Handicap on Sept. 28. Faulk owns a percentage of another Team Valor horse, a three-year-old colt named Infinite Magic.
A five-year-old chestnut-colored horse, Brujo de Olleros is listed as an 8-1 shot in the Dirt Mile, which is slated to start at 6:05 p.m. Eastern this evening and will be shown on NBC Sports Network. He will break from post position No. 4.
Among the other Dirt Mile entrants are Verrazano and Goldencents, who each ran in the 2013 Kentucky Derby and are the top two betting choices on the morning line.
