The Bengals lost defensive tackle Geno Atkins for the season to a torn ACL last Thursday and they officially moved him off their active roster on Monday.

Atkins has been placed on injured reserve, where he will remain for the rest of the season as he begins moving down the road back from his serious knee injury. Any kind of timetable is meaningless at this point because Atkins just suffered the injury, but the Bengals are surely hopeful that he’ll be ready to go in time for training camp.

The Bengals will replace Atkins on the roster with defensive tackle Christo Bilukidi. Bilukidi was a sixth-round pick in Oakland last year and was waived last month when the Raiders claimed defensive end/linebacker Martez Wilson off of waivers from the Saints. Bilukidi had five tackles in five games this year.

Atkins is the eighth member of the Bengals defense to wind up on injured reserve so far this season. If that number keeps going up, the Bengals will have a hard time remaining in front of the AFC North.
