Broncos coach John Fox had surgery today to repair a heart valve defect and is now recovering, the team has announced.

Front office boss John Elway and interim head coach Jack Del Rio spoke with reporters in Denver, where they said they expect business as usual while Fox is away in the coming weeks. Elway said the early indications are that surgery was a success and Fox will be OK.

“Our main concern is the well-being of John Fox and getting him healthy,” Elway said. “Everything has been positive up to this point in time.”

Del Rio said he will continue performing his normal duties as defensive coordinator in addition to serving as the head coach. Del Rio stressed that the “interim” part of his title is the most important part, because he’s eager to be working for Fox again, adding, “This is Coach Fox’s team.”
