Broncos will name interim head coach in the morning

Broncos AP

With Broncos coach John Fox facing surgery this week to replace a heart valve, the Broncos have yet to name an interim head coach.

Per a league source, the decision will be finalized before a Monday morning team meeting at 8:05 a.m. ET, as the Broncos players return to Denver following a bye-week break.

Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio continues to be the likely choice, even though it could undermine the overall defensive preparation by diluting Del Rio’s focus on that side of the ball.  Coupled with the absence of Fox, who was a defensive coordinator before becoming head coach, the overall defensive coaching effort will be diminished if Del Rio gets the gig.

Other candidates include offensive coordinator Adam Gase and running backs coach Eric Studesville, who served as interim head coach after Josh McDaniels was fired late in the 2010 season.

Broncos will name interim head coach in the morning??? What! Are they too embarrassed to admit the truth and say Peyton Manning will be the interim head coach?

I don’t see why Peyton Manning couldn’t be the HC and the QB. Why not him?

It’s gonna be Del Rio. He has previous HC experience and he has a long track record with Fox dating all the way back to the early 2000’s when he was Fox’s DC back in Carolina before he got the Jacksonville HC gig. Fox trusts Del Rio.

Surely it will be JDR. He can do for Denver what he did for Jacksonville. He’ll just have less time.

Jack Del Rio is the obvious choice, due to his extensive successes in Jacksonville – mainly at consistently being one of the top 5 water hogs in NE Florida…

Have they watched the Broncos play defense this year? I’m not sure if that’s possible.
